great post, Eugene. i wish i could go back and redo what i did to my 240sx it was a moneypit and i wasted so much money since i didnt do my research and homework. I also didnt really take advice from the guys that knew what was up.

I come home to fresno in a couple weeks we should meet up. I'd like to check your stealth out.

Thanks. I have a VR4 and i am 18. At first i followed matt and all the other guys making headway with our cars. I wanted to be the fastest around and prove that my tank(as everyone likes to call it) could beat everyone around. Recently I have began my purchases and am currently building my 2nd motor for it. I know that 500-600hp is fun but with realistic setbacks.Sorry for the story

Basically i really appreciate this thread and i hope it hits home to alot of young guys like myself. Hell i have gone through 15,000 worth of parts and my car s still in shambles.

On a side note i have two DD so i could technically go big but in the end it's not worth it. At least for me

Well done Eugene! I just hope all the youngsters will take heed to your well thought out logic. I agee with your premise, especially about the reliability of a highly modified engine. A lot of folks I know are turning down the HP and just enjoying driving their cars instead of waiting for them to get fixed. Regards Chuck

Haha seriously? If you ever need any help let me know. I go to Penn State Beaver in Monaca, which is like 10 miles from Cranberry according to mapquest. I love working on cars, just not mine and no where to work on it really haha Don't have a shit ton of experience but catch on pretty quickly.

I thought that was a great write up.
I'd just like to add that I'm 19 and have a BPU-spec 92' VR-4. Its the second car I've actually owned, though I don't drive it in the winter. When I first got this car about a year and a half ago when I was 17, I didn't know lot about cars. I just knew that 3000GTs were sexy as hell, and that the turbos made it faster. The first time I drove that thing it scared the hell out of me. I'd never ridden in something with that much power before. She was bone stock for quite some time, as I had no interest in upgrades whatsoever because I thought it was more than fast enough for me.

A lot has changed since then, I've read so much about the platform and what people have done with it, and have upgraded the car to BPU-spec myself without much of any previous experience working on cars (And yes, I do for the most part know what I'm doing now, and have had a much more experienced friend of mine help me out a couple of times with things I hadn't done before). I've been researching different turbo set-ups for some time now, and have a pretty good idea of what I want to do in the future. But I agree, from what I've read it seems like anything above 500HP is not only too expensive, but also less streetable and less reliable. So my goal has been in that range, and I'm not going to take the plunge until I know I have enough money to finance all of it, and know exactly what set-up I plan to go with. And as such, this car has become less and less of a daily driver, as I've realized that never was the reason I bought it in the first place.
