Great post Eugene!

I once was part of that "bad mother" club you call it. The stealth was a complete blast on the street, but way overkill. Even at the 500awhp on pump it would destroy bikes and was dangerous. I had it out one night in "Kill" mode, 700+awhp dyno dynamics power. I raced 1 car, went way to fast on a public road, and now have a story to tell, yippee!

If I could do it again, I would have keep it civil. 300-400awhp 3kgt's are money. They are a blast to drive, comfortable, have all the creature comforts, still are fast, and won't kill you if you get distracted for .001 seconds.

The internet has done an excellent job of making everyone making less than 1000hp worthless. In reality those cars rarely see street duty and the time, effort, and money involved to keep it reliable and enjoy it more than 1000 miles a year is simply insane.

Great post, this is a must read for any new member wanting 600awhp on pump gas when they've owned the car for a week. Sit back, read, get a few rides, and research, research, research.

Don't get me wrong, I love high hp 3kgt's, just don't plan on owning another one anytime soon. (or anything with that power anytime soon)

for what it's worth, i'll agree with russian

i was in the same situation as him. bought my VR4 when i was 16, kept it until i was 23 and spent every free penny i had on it. it was kind of interesting to be a 23 year old with a cool car like this and built motor/heads/turbos, etc.

long story short, i ended up selling the car for a few reasons, one of which being that it could never be what i wanted it to be, at least given my financial situation. the car was great until i decided to go beyond BPU and then problems slowly started happening, until i blew the motor and had to rebuild it amongst other things.

i'm 26 now and i still want a car i can mess with. i'm looking into buying a supra, but if i do, i'm going to be a lot smarter this time around. i want something i don't have to constantly worry about. i drive a 2007 Corvette Z06 and can also attest to the power/traction issues you will have with a powerful street car. i've had a close call on the highway awhile ago with it where the car felt it needed to go almost sideways as i shifted from 2nd into 3rd.

bunch of rambling, yadda yadda

the main point is: do research, ask questions, talk to people. sometimes you have to live and learn to really know things for sure, but this is by far the best community to learn in if you have to make mistakes

I can say I agree COMPLETELY. I Have a corvette that is merely pushing about 275hp and about 350-360 ft lbs torque and its fun yes, but its more than I SHOULD be safely driving at. (I tend to drive it a little too..."FUN" at times). But Im going to do things to my my 99 base 3kgt to make it how I like it. Dont really care if the guy at the red light in his 350 can blow me out of the water, Im going to have a car I like, rely on, and just all around enjoy!!!!
WELL SAID MAN!!!!

I really like this! It really should be read by every one that plans to start modifying a car.

Good post. I'm slowly trying to cut my car's power and tune back to around 80% of what it could push for the reason that I hate having a car that isn't reliable. I drive my 96 Grand Marquis infinitely more often than I drive my stealth.
