-Add RTV in equal amount around the entire rim of the pan
-place the pan onto the block and I put one bolt in each corner just enough to hold the pan
- I then go through and put each bolt in finger tight (not really in a patern but not one right after the other either.... just kinda switch sides each time)
- Then I go through and tighten each bolt in the pattern described on stealth316.

That is why you are getting a leak. There is supposed to be a solid gasket in there. The price is $8.99.

When I had a leak it was because the pan had been tightened down to the point where the bolt holes had bent inwards/invaginated, causing high/low points on the pan. To fix the problem I took a punch and hammered out the holes from the inside --> out.

Ummm there's no gasket for our oil pans. I checked on AutoZone and they don't list one for a '97, but for some reason list one for a '91. I also checked with CAPS and it doesn't list one either. Also checked on steath316 and he doesn't list one also. 3 strikes - Guess who's wrong.

Canadian Tire lists a cork gasket for Stealth's only (lol) that I wasn't very fond of.

Stealth 316 - Oil Pan
+1
Plus, isn't the 91 oil pan different than the 97 (2 bolt vs. 4 bolt). So I would imagine that the gasket may be slightly different.

Well, I finally got around to redoing the gasket again (i know its been awhile but two jobs and full time school keeps me pretty busy ). Anyway, I ended up getting a tube of the Mitsu gasket maker, this stuff: Mitsubishi Engine & Transmission Silicone Gasket Sealant*-*Mitsubishi 3000GT*/*Dodge Stealth
for free from the dealership here! So, I figured it was worth a try. I followed the same procedure (as far as what I have read it is the correct one) and guess what? It still leaks

So, I'm 99.9% sure that it is coming from the pan as I can see it dripping down from there and it flows off of the transfer case. Since I have done this 4 times and counting now, is there any other place that you can think of that it could be leaking from other than the pan? I pretty sure its not the Rear Main as the leak only happens after the car shuts off. Thanks for any input!

Try finding someone around you that can take a look at it. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes helps.

LOL, I'm considering taking over to Matt at DR (only like 45 min. away) and having him do it.... but I hate having to pay someone for something that I "should" be able to do. I will have to get a fresh pair of eyes to take a look though.... as mine are burning from the agony

My vote is for a rear main seal. Regardless of whether you thought it was leaking before or not.

I agree that you need to get a local 3s guy take a look at it with you.
