Choosing the wrong filter will also do that to you... We all have to start somewhere! lol

best way to keep this from happening, and should always be done anyway. take a clean rag, lint-free, and wipe the area the actual gasket sits on. No way you can miss it if the gasket is there, and your guranteed a good seal since anything that may be on there is now gone. I was taught this way and have been doing it since i was a freshman (including the 2 years in the field now). An yeah, im a junior and this has never happened to me. now after saying this, you can all laugh since its probably going to happen in a month when im rushing at work or school. lol

You only do it once!, I check EVERY old filter for the o-rings. If you smear some new engine oil on the new filter before fitting it helps.

Word lol. I've changed my oil or on other cars like 50 times and I've never done any of that lol. I just check the old filter for an o-ring, wipe the area around the fitting, fill up the oil filter, and smear some on the o-ring.
