Just curious
Kind of on that same topic...and hopefully someone can dispel this myth. I was under the impression that Mitsu went from a 2-bolt to a 4-bolt to not only give the engine a "beefier" look on paper, but to try and resolve spun bearing issues. I could be completely off base here...

not to steal the topic but can you swap a 4 bolt block into an existing setup (2 bolt) with out having to change anything or are the blocks different i.e. sensors and what not? im sure id have to change the oil pan.

Yes, I have known it since the first of the year. And have discussed it in about a dozen threads.

There is a lot of changes to use 4-bolt mains, When I did my swap everyone thought the 2 bolt mains were junk, Chris proved that the 2-bolt main NA block is capable of HUGE amounts of power so I would never do this swap again.

Sorry Chris, but I havent read any of that. (if its not on page one of "new threads" I dont see anything )

Is the 3SX drag car over?

Always a money pit, I know, but that'd be a real shame.

I've very interested to see where this goes as well. I'm putting a similar engine together to drop in until the stroker project is completed. I've got 94mm 3SX pistons, used forged rods, reground crank (.25/.25), ported heads (JonVR4) w/ stock valves. Going to be running a speed density setup, and probably Holset HX30's or KKK K27's

Ricer: from the latin word Ricarius meaning to suck at everything you attempt

A person who makes unnecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to):

- Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder
- Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747
- Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool
- Expensive rims that usually cost more than the car itself
- Body kit to make the car appear lower, usually accented with chicken wire
- Clear tail lights and corner signals
- A "performance intake"- a tube that feeds cold air to their engine usually located in areas of excessive heat (behind or on top of the engine)
- Most of these riced cars (a.k.a. rice rockets or rice burners) are imports; Honda Civics, Accords, Integras, CRXs, RSXs, Del Sols Mitsubishi Eclipses, Lancers, Subaru Imprezas, however there are some domestics such as Chevrolet Caviliers, Dodge Neons, Ford Focus; small, slow, economy cars designed specifically to go slow. Please note that some 3000gt's Supras, Skylines, WRX's and other higher performance imports are designed to go fast, and are therefore not always considered rice, but it really depends on the severity of the case.

I am confused as fuck towards the title of this thread as well. The 2 bolts vs. 4 bolt debate was resolved YEARS ago. The biggest thing you have to worry about these cars and making decent power was proven to be the crank. Forged > Cast..everything else is just cornflakes. Mitsu only makes our cranks forged now from what I understand, so..

P.S. Matt Monett has been running 2 bolts on his 11 and 10 second cars since the beginning. Jeremy's car was the nail in the coffin on the debate.

IIRC it was speculated that the bearings on 91-92 Early were slightly thinner (confirmation?) than the 92 Late-UP, which is why 1st gens were known to spin bearing more often. There is data that shows that the cranks are bad news on early models. The 2 bolt v 4 bolt debate died Circa 05/06
