Had to tear down a few extra sets of heads I have to find 24 good valves. A lot of the valves ended up having pitting on the seats. I hate seats that have pitting.

So, bottom end built. Heads torn down, cleaned and valves picked out.

Need to put on oil pan, Clean valves and lap and install into head with new VSS.

Then start assembling the rest of the engine.

T2 uses 3076's
I am not so I won't be able to answer those questions with this build.
What I did choose should be here in a few weeks.
And a little while after that I should start getting some solid numbers

Hooooooooooooooooooold up....
If the 2 bolt is so kick-ass, why did 3SX recommend I pay to upgrade/convert to the 4 bolt so it would be more reliable and last longer- knowing that I'm only pushing what ever power DR500s make?

The 4-bolt is obviously the stronger motor, so they were probably just covering their ass. The 2-bolt may or may not be stronger, and there's really no way of telling unless the exact same mods were done to each engine and both were pushed until they failed. To my knowledge, that hasn't been done so no one can really say for sure whether or not the 4-bolt really is the better motor, but I'm sure any shop will recommend going with it if you're doing upgrades.

I would say that would be it. Obviously, to me anyway, mitsu saw things needed to be beefed up so they changed from a 2 bolt to a 4 bolt, cast crank to a forged crank, paper composite gaskets to MLS, Aluminum Transfer case to Cast iron etc.

Mitsu didn't do all those things cause they {mitsu} thought it would be fun to Change production parts. That costs money. They obviously thought they were improvements.

So I would say whomever you spoke to at 3SX thought the same. I don't see any failed logic there

There is no reason to upgrade to a 4 bolt since the 2 bolt has never been proven to be inferior in the real world. There are a bunch of members pushing insane horse power with 2 bolts with absolutely no problems.

IIRC, IPOs old 1st gen VR4 (the red one with 17gs) had the motor completely rebuilt using a stock CAST crank, and he never had any problems. I even recall him mentioning in a thread years ago that the cast crank was just as good as the forged crank, if the motor was rebuilt correctly.

Until someone destroys a 2 bolt bottem end and proves the carnage was because of a 2 bolts weakness (no one has done so for almost 20 years), there is absolutely no reason to spend $$$ to upgrade to a 4 bolt.
