I have a new driver's side CV axle I need to put it in. I read that the motor & tranny mounts + front end alignment should be in good shape first. I know my motor mounts are getting pretty bad and I plan on replacing them but I'd like to get this halfshaft in right away.
Should I try to replace the motor mounts first? What could happen? Also a link for some good instructions/discussion on replacing the driver's side CV shaft in a SOHC stealth would be extremely helpful. No luck with search. Thanks!

Alignment has nothing to do with motor mounts.
Also the CV joint replacement is going to mess with alignment anyway.

Replacing the axle shouldn't mess with alignment if you do it right. rather than unbolting the strut to knuckle, undo the balljoint and tie rod end if necessary. That should hopefully be enough room to get the axle out. Good luck

Unrelated but quick question for anyone. I removed the crank pulley with the breaker bar propped on the frame while I hit the ignition a few times... now how do I tighten the crank pulley nut again without a tool?! |

The SOHC has slots in the pulley. I usually take some kind of pry bar and slide it in the slot and let it jam against the control arm, sort of opposite how how break the bolt loose, except this time you are using arm power to tighten it.
