So you clean the belt and that part it slides on even though that is not where it sticks? I guess I'm just confused. I'd like to try it out. Thanks!

Are you going to try and get a recall for our "defective" brakes that wear out after 50 or 60 thousand miles? They are definently a safety issue as much as this is, lol.
Sealtbelts are NOT a wear item....they don't WEAR out....the rip in accidents, and then you buy a new one.....other than that, you aren't supposed to have to buy a new one.

Try this

1) get an interor cleaner and a cloth
2) Spray the cloth
3) Pull the belt all of the way out
4) sandwitch the belt in the cloth right next to the slide and hold tight.
5) pull thru the cloth by pullign the belt from the back side of the slide.
Repeat steps 2-5 3-4 times.
6) clean slide and shoulder support.
7) wipe belt till dry

see how it works.

Brakes........duh.....ya thats called maintainence. I would only consider brakes as a defective part if unusual things happen, like perhapes a rotor cracked for no reason. Just an FYI......there was a recall on a brake part for these cars. The lines were cracking and leaking fluid.

Seatbelts don't just wear out on every car like ours do. This is a serious issue. If you dont care then go ahead and pay Mitsu the $200+ labor.

So then if this gets recalled and your seatbelt doesn't work properly, I bet you would have no issue getting it replaced for free.

I don't feel bad for Mitsu......
I mean if I got seriously injured in a accident and it was all because my seatbelt didnt work, you can wager on it that I will take them to court and win lotsa money......Yes then I would feel bad for them......but its their own fault, this isn't the first time someone has complained about these seatbelts. This is just the first time something is being done about it.

I don't know WTF you guys are talking about, but TONS of cars seatbelt's don't retract when you up clip them. It isn't a big deal. Strap yourself in and make sure the seat belt is retracted. The locking mechanism in it works fine either way.

My 98 Ranger started not retracting all the way on its own in 2002. This is a very common issue on any car. The belt gets dirty and needs cleaning.

The newest 3/s is already 7 years old, STOP expecting Mitsu to repair the thing.

Do you ever read warranties?

http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/toyot...rranty.html%7D

Restraint system warranty is 5 years/60,000 miles on a new Toyota.

So you are saying this should still be covered by Mitsu?

I've noticed my belts seem to not lock at all unless put under extreme pressure. For instance, in most cars if you hit the brakes slightly and lean forward some, your belt will lock; my car it seems you have to slam the brakes and then it seems to lock (although I have yet to get in an accident to test this). Is this the same problem that you guys are talking about?

cbehnken - you are not appreciated in this thread.

I'm going to ask nicely - Please do not come back to this thread. If you still insist on bringing up drama, you will take a vacation.
