Default Need Support For Seatbelt Recall

Do your seatbelts work?........PROPERLY?

This is a more than a common issue with the 3S. It's an issue that involves your safety and NEEDS to be taken care of.

The seatbelts in many of our cars do not function properly. When the seatbelt is pulled on it does not retract, leaving enough slack in the belt that if an accident were to occur, it would not serve its purpose as a safety restraint.

I have called Mitsubishi Motor Corp regarding this issue, and asked if this safety restraint feature is covered under a lifetime warranty. (IMO it should be). I was told that this part was only covered under a factory warranty up to 5 years or 60K miles, which ever comes first.

So what is the next step?

In order for a recall to occur, there has to be numerous complaints about the problem to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). I called them, here's what they said: "If the NHTSA recieves similar complaints, it may open an investigation, and if it finds that a safety defect exists in a group of vehicles, it may order a recall and remedy campaign." We need all the help we can get, the more complaints submitted, the more attention will be brought to this issue.

Here is what you need to do:

If you have this problem, you can call the NHTSA and file a complaint.
Or go to the website and file a complaint.

Phone: (800) 424-9393

Direct Link to file complaint:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

Thank you to all who has participated in helping to get this issue resolved. I can't guarantee that this will get recalled, but it is for sure a step in the right direction.

soon as I get my 3kgt, I'll be calling

I've heard reports of members that complained to the dealer and got it fixed though. Not that that would work for most of us

Don't know if it can be pulled off but my driver's seatbelt does this. Pretty irritating.

People said the same thing back in the day before the Transfer case recall... it can be done, just file your complaint.

So how do they fix this? It's one thing to bitch about it..another to actually have it fixed. Do they service what you have or install a new mechanism?

? I had an outstanding belt recall on my TT, had it done at dodge/mitsu in the late 1990s. I forgot the recall code, but its easy to find.

Recall was on 91 to 96 stealths afaik
