Agreed, much easier to do it from the top.

Personally, I'd remove the control arm and pry from the bottom. It sounds to me like you're pulling on the outer part of the CV when prying which won't help.

I think I pried mine out from the bottom, but I tried going from above too. I had free run at it since so much stuff was removed at the time.

Oh yeah, make sure to inspect the seal on the trans while you have the axle out & replace if necessary... now is the best time to do it.

The passenger side one was actually pretty easy, I had much more "fun" separating the driver side axle from the intermediate shaft.

Stupid question, but the outer portion of the CV axle is loose (i.e. totally disconnected & removed from the hub), correct? Has to be totally out of the hub before you can think about getting the inner portion out of the trans.

Unless your control arm is removed or you seperate the halves and remove them seperately.

Yes, totally removed from the hub. I'm going to give it (here in a minute) another go from the bottom, doesn't work, I'll start ripping shit out of the top. What a pain in the rear.

Up-dates to come.

Thnx again for the advice folks.

Stupid question - Does it matter how I put this in. Like, is there a top or bottom. I don't see any markings on the new one or the old one, so I'm assuming, just stick it in there?

thats what she said lol. Naw man I dont think there is a deff top or bottom. If your plastic boot has a place where you can tell it comes together, like a line down the whole boot, I would put that on top if you could.

There is no keying of any kind on the axle splines (i.e. it does not have to be aligned at any particular position when installing). You just have to mate up the splines and stick it in there...

Give it a good shove into the trans to get the c-clip engaged (remember to be careful of the seal!), then get the outer splines into the hub and start putting stuff back together.
