Passenger side. I replacing a bad CV joint, got the hub / brakes disconnected. Someone told me to use a crowbar, so I thought, I need some room, so I took the whole strut out.
Now what? There isn't any room, if so, where on the joint do I hook it to? Thnx SJ

???? Where are you at on removing it? Do you got the axle nut off? If everything is disconnected just put the crowbar at the end of the axle by the transmission and give it a good pry, should come right out.

What he said.
Big fat prybar might not fit. I have an xlarge flathead screwdriver that I use for axle removal. Needs to fit between the tranny and the axle cup, then give a sharp pry away from the trans to pop the axle out. It is retained into the front diff by a c-clip, so that is what you are overcoming by prying it out. You may find it necessary to pry a bit, then turn the axle so you can pry in a different location. Repeat until it pops out. |

Just a quick reminder, when you get the old axle out MAKE SURE THAT THE "C" CLIP CAME WITH IT! They usually pop right out with the axle but occasionally they get stuck and pop off the back into the differential. If the clip goes missing you WILL have to fish it out or it will get into the gears and trash the diff. Look at the new one to see what we're talking about.
A little paranoid perhaps but all it takes is a glance to make sure.. |
