Do be honest with you. i didnt test it. it was my supervisor/friend. He used some multimeter with some weird fat probe and had it hooked up to either a tach signal or one of the wires off the spark plugs. I dont remember what he did exactly
and i believe he had to convert it to rpms throught some calculations. He said i was off by 60rpms, and i believe him since he is really smart. Whether its true or not i dont know. I just know my rpms are not off by much So i assumed im off by 60rpms.![]()

I'm wondering also. Thought you'd need a scope or frequency counter for that?
Protip for yall on the LEDs: They are rated by viewing angle and brightness. The viewing angle is the size of the cone of light projected when it's turned on, and the brightness (measured in millicandelas or MCD) is the average light intensity over a certain area of the cone. A 120deg, 900mcd LED can be the same "brightness" as a 15deg, 10,000mcd LED. The former will get you a wide, diffused light, while the latter is more like a laser beam; very narrow but very bright. Good call on using surface-mount LEDs! |

Well done sir.
Since I got the car I've been wondering how I would make the dash cluster more to my liking... and you just told me. lol I'm guessing a slight change in the LEDs could retain the illumination and get rid of the projection? I don't really like how it shoots the light onto your dash, I could live with it though... far better than stock imo. About the measuring RPMs with a DMM... I'ev got a crazy ass DMM, no clue how to use 99.999% of it's functions.... ![]() |

This is a great writeup. Thanks!
As for the tach being off after removing the needle, I've never had my gauges apart and mine are already off by a bit... I notice the difference in my datalogger. Though now that I think about it, I'm not sure if the datalogger is wrong or the tach is wrong. Oh well.

I wouldn't worry about it much. Do some mods and you can tell it can't keep up with the engine in 1st gear. I've hit my rev limiter while my tach only said 6800 or so. 60 RPM = nothing.
