Ok, so I'm driving home and only a few blocks my house, I see a van starting to pull of a parking lot to a town house complex, so I honk to let it know I'm coming. They slow down so I keep on coming then right before I get to the parking lot they are coming out of they pull all the way out blocking both sides of the two lane road.
I realize that I don't have enough time or space to stop, and there is nowhere to go to avoid her so I run my car at the curb and push on my brakes as hard as I can. My car hops the curb the underside digs into the grass. My left front deflates instantly and i can here my right front slowly leaking as my car stops. ![]() I am the yellow line, she is the red, she pulls out when I am at the line break, and I have old breaks, good enough for everyday use, but not that good to stop from 25-0 in 20 feet. ![]() this is how my car ends up, pretty good that i avoided the big bush on the right side, and the steps on the left. you can kinda see the little bush on its side in front of my car . . . oops All in all, I'm ok, but im pretty fcking pissed. She comes out with the "you were speeding", and then the "oh i didnt see you coming". I dont fcking care if you didnt see me, that doesnt make it ok, shes lucky I like my car didnt just t-bone the driver side of her car, it would have been her fault anyways. So, now rant over, here to the point, anybody know how much it costs to repair rims, most likely her insurance will pay for everything, and since we both have the same local carrier, this should be taken care of reasonably fast. If you think these are beyond repair, how much does mitsu charge for brand new ones? If im not paying, might as well get brand new ones. Or hope they just cut me a check, and rims from the dealer are so expensive that I will be able to get a nice set for that price of two new ones? maybe ![]() this is the front left, i hit the curb with this rim first, so its pretty bad ![]() this rim hit second and not as hard, i think most of the damage on this one is on the inside of the rim, guessing by the angle i hit the curb

new dealer rims are not cheap. (607 right, 575 left with discount, normally 810$ and 767$) but you might be some bushing damage.
lower control arms, sway bar bushings, wheel bearings. those prob need updated as it is. Use the dealer price on the rims to get the other stuff and get the rims from ebay.

What about the wheel and caps clones?
eBay Motors: 18" Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 Dodge Stealth Wheels Tires (item 220231643870 end time May-14-08 15:10:25 PDT) Are these the same quality as the stockers? If so, better price. |

If you hit a regular size curb, say 4", I bet you have a hell of a lot more damage. You must have bent at least a few things in the suspension and maybe steering.
That seems like a very long brake path for 25mph. If you fix this I would include new rotors and pads for sure. I never trust cars that pull out and seem to stop for me. I always count on them stopping for a completely different reason and baby around it with my foot above the brake.

+1... I was surprised what i saw the SAT image... You should be able to stop your car on a dime! and you were doin just 25? definitely sth wrong with your brakes. even for old brakes there's no explaining that long of a brake path...I would check brake, rotors, of course, but also booster and master cyl...

shit, i was hoping it was just rims, how can I check bushings and bearings with out physically taking them out and looking? I probably wanna have a mechanic or the
dealer look it when insurance makes their estimate. it not just a straight brake path, i had to cut the wheel over and stomp the brakes, when the car pulled out in front of me, i would say there were 2 car lengths max I know the VR4 brakes are quite good, but I have been noticing they are soft, dont grip really hard for quick stops. i was already looking to replace them before yesterday's incident. is that judging from the SAT pic, or the pic of my car on the hill. looking back that sat picture is wrong. i drew my car stopped in the wrong place, you can kinda see the steps next to the green box, also where I originally drew my yellow mark is too far from the parking lot. Also, there was a car parked on the street about where the blue box is on the drawing. i was literally a foot away from his back bumper. He was parked about 4 feet away from the entrance to the parking lot, I actually talked to the owner of that car later when i was taking pics. I can only see skid marks on the road till I'm almost across the center line.I remember that I was almost at her parking lot when she pulled out into the road, so the braking was more sideways than straight on. will post pics of that later. ![]() I assumed they were stopped and saw me, but hey, when I assume I make an ass out of you and me . . .
