We'll let it go... This time...

On one face of the hexagon part there should be a stamped letter.
The one marked "V" is the intake
The one marked "C" is the exhaust.

Ah dammit, You deserve the rep for the quick response but no, there is only JE which is on all 4 cams and 1 cam has a horizontal 1 and a vertical 7 2 1
and the other is a horizontal 1 with vertical 4 3 4.

There's different marks for different years, I assumed you have a '91 and look that up in my '91 manual. There's some pictures in this post, just to make sure we're talking about the same thing:

Also, both my '91 paper manual and my '93 CD say it's "V" and "C" but most of the other posts I just looked through say it's "V" and "D". Wouldn't be the first typo I've found in the manual.. Either way "V" should be intake.

WOW that is ghetto gay. I checked my brother TT cams that came out of the head and his had ground down spots with the letters engraved in. Mine has VERY FAINT letters just engraved in, I found it in a stroke of luck by the light, so yes you were right I apologize.

YEA I got one head down!

12 more valves to lap tomorrow and start putting my car together! WooHoo!
