The shaft seal leaks and it runs down so it can appear to be the fitting. Jeff V wrote a nice guide on rebuilding the cylinders that I need to link on my site. I would say 99% chance this is your problem.

I assume you mean the Tonneau reservoir on the right of the pic. It will empty again if you don't rebuild the cylinders.
