Default Has anyone used a Penske "Car Carrier" ?

We are moving soon, and I'll need to pull my 93 3000GT behind the moving truck. UHaul says it's not a problem with their car carrier, but Penske says the car is "incompatible". But they can't tell me why.

Has anyone ever used their carrier? The only thing I can think of is the angle of the ramps, but I can get around that one.

Penske - aside from being Diesel, is less than half the price.

Some of them only support the front wheels and the car rides on the rear. If you have a vr4 you can't do that because of the awd. I can't see why it would be incompatable with the one in the picture.

yes..I have used a penske car carrier before, it will work. If your wheels are
bigger than 17 inches the straps that go over the front wheels will not hold the car. In other words your wheels have to be 17 inches or less.

Mine is an SL, but its the carrier I'm planning to use, not the dolley. I talked to a guy at the local Penske location yesterday. He told me the issue with the 3000GT is the ramp angle being too steep, but they didn't have any carriers on hand that we could try putting my car on.

Did you have any trouble getting your car up the ramps? In my head the simple solution (assuming the stock ramps don't work) would be to just back the thing up to a curb or use some longer ramps, maybe some 2x12 or something. (I am open to suggestions)

I have stock wheels, so that part shouldn't be an issue.

Just stopped by another Penske location, and sure enough it won't clear the stock ramps. Guess I'll try to pick up some short 2x12s and see if that works.

Trust me on this, you want diesel if you can get it. The improved MPG will more than pay for the different in fuel prices.

The car carriers may be incompatible because it is too thin. Uhaul used to have 2 types of trailers, one a 3000GT would fit on, and one it wouldn't. Now they only have the wider type. I would measure between the fenders of the trailer.

Ok, here's an out-there idea. Buy a car trailer. Tow your car and then sell the trailer when you get to your destination. THey don't lose much, if any, value. Any value you do lose will probably be less than what the rental rate on the rental would be.

If you get a cheep car trailer you could even make money. But you do have to factor in the time to register the trailer and the time it takes to get the title.
