I wanted to know if anybody has used a traffic attorney. I got a ticket for 80 in a 65 in North Carolina. Lots of lawyers have offered their legal services via the mail. I am considering going to my court date but these lawyers say that you do not need to show up and they take care of it(no guarantees). All in all I could save $60 or break even if I hire an attorney. I am not sure if this is a good idea so I am asking if anybody has had experience with this.

I have, but it was in NY. I found the guy using google =P. Called them up, never even got to talk to the lawyer, but it seemed legit. I was doing 85 in a 55, and the guy dropped the $375 6-point ticket down to a $125 non-moving violation. I had to send the ticket to him, and he sent me the bill. I checked with insurance and there was no trace of the ticket at all. Got what I paid for, although it was expensive ($400). Hope this helps.

likely you will have to show up at the court date. An attorney for it? well, thats debatable in its necessity.
You can get a diminished fine, but chances are I'd say your pretty screwed as far as having to pay. One thing I would definitely suggest doing is trying to get court supervision w/out a class. I know a lot of people that have done that, that way you dont have to waste hours of your life as well as not pay some money. All in all im skeptical on the worth of an attorney, I'd go in there with some sort of argument and the worst that happens is you have to pay in full.

Use a lawyer close to the courthouse. There 4 office near ours and the lawyers pretty much know the judges on first name terms. If your insurance will rise greatly cause of the ticket using a well known and liked lawyer is a good idea.

I should have said that it is 5 hours away. The best I am hoping for is paying the Lawyer and the ticket and not getting points or showing up. Yes it is possible to go in and get it reduced on my own but with the drive I really save nothing. |

In the end, you need to ask some questions to the lawyer, interview him to find out his experience and what he thinks he can achieve with your situation.

From my experiance, a lawyer is only really worth it if you are facing jail time or license suspension. And I have been through both (without a lawyer) and I really wish I hired one. If it's below 4 points just go to court and talk to the DA they will reduce the points, pay the fine and go about your life. Just my .02

I have used a lawyer for at least 5 tickets in the past couple of years. Always had positive results. The ticket either got dismissed or reduced to nothing. Not sure about else where but the courts here in houston don't care because either you pay the fine or go to court and pay "court costs", which are about the same amount. The plus side is no increase in insurance.
I do have to show up in court on the date set which takes half a day.
