Is this done as a joke? Or in all seriousness are they doing this because they think it looks good? I could see building cars like this for a clown car show... just as a means to showcase your abilities and have some fun. But if they seriously believe these things look good... oh boy.

No it's a huge trend over there now. You look at shots of their car shows and you wont find a shortage of those cars.

its part look part performance
GT racing is really huge in Japan and many people want a supercar,, most cant afford it. So they make their random car look like a super car. Most of the time the kit are %100 functional. All the ducting works, the car is mor areodynamic and even handles better, its just ugly as shit by American standards

Has anyone seen the show Bangla Bangers on Discovery? That's pretty much the same idea. One guy takes a old rusted out piece of shit and with a little sheet metal and custom interior turns it into a supercar. The cool part is the entire thing is done in a makeshift shop in Bangladesh with very few resources and his turnaround time is usually a month or 6 weeks. Of course the guy looks like hell by the end from working crazy hours but he's some sorta God to them. People flock to car shows to see his unveilings.

EDIT: Sorry the show is actually called The Global Garage but everyone refers to the creator and his mechanic as the Bangla Bangers.
