I'm sure its been asked before, but I couldn't find anything using the search engine. Does anyone know what the upper limit is with the stock MAF? Who has gone the fastest with no nitrous on a stock MAF in a 3s? I'm contemplating my turbo upgrade options and I know that I'd be leaving something on the table with the stock MAF, but want to keep my tune dead reliable. Anyone have any experience?
I've been wondering about this for a long time myself. I don't want to give up my MAF either, but feel it will become the limiting factor. The most I've been able to find is 475awhp with 3 of the honeycombs removed. In for more info.

Me too I like to keep a stock MAF, so I converted an EVo 8 MAF for my car, they have prooven they are able to sustain 700WHP so far.

Thanks for the info so far everyone. I'm not sure how I missed the Mellon thread, but am reading it now. Keep it coming. I'd love to see personal experiences and results.
DSM Performance, tell me more about this EVO 8 MAF swap! Is the MAF physically bigger in diameter? A direct fit with no tuning required?
its not that there is a limit.. more like after 400 it gets harder and harder to make power.
this is because the vacuum that gets created between the mas and the turbos as the power (flow) goes up. when this happens, its more difficult to turn the vacuum into boost.. its like lowering the baro.
the way the turbo makes up for the vacuum is to close the WG more to reach the desired boost level. when this happens, there is more back pressure created to make the same target boost.
ie. you will make less hp at 20psi if theres any reason that the WG is closed more than it needs to be. vacuum before the turbo, boost leaks, IC pipes too small etc.
so did you imagine that a small maf robs power from creating exhaust back pressure? well, thats how it all works

Did you ever actually prove that its given you any more HP converting to a evo 8 maf?
Coop
It's not so much that you will make more power as it is that the 055, and 609 mafs drop counts after about 500 whp. They can only read a certan maximum airflow. The evo 399 maf can read more flow without dropping counts. There is a chart somewhere with the different mitsu air meters and their measuring range. I know that mitsu rated the vr4 maf for a max of 240 liters/seconds.
