My mom has a new mini cooper s and it's ridiculously expensive to maintain considering it's a normal car. There's really nothing I as a home mechanic car enthusiast can do to tinker on it since everything on the freaking thing is attached to a sensor of some sort. Just to swap the rims over I have to set the TPS monitoring and shit.
The price of my 15Gs was a hair less than the service she just had for brakes, fluids, and wiper blades.
I tried to convince her that instead of spending the money on a new car, for about 1/4 of the price she could have sent her all original 92 Golf GTI off to be restored to factory freshness and had another 10 years plus to drive it.

This car was Mitsubishi's halo car in the 90's, I don't think there's much of an argument about that. Hell, see my avatar. That's a real book. Maybe the young(est) people might not get that, but the car was a big deal when it came out and while it was in production. Hell, I'm 28 and I remember it well - I had a calendar of sports cars when I was 10, in 1994. One month was the 3000GT VR-4.
lol you are comparing a 20 year old 3000gt which shares the same engine variant as a Caravan to brand new Aston Martin? You just lost all credibility for posting on this forum.
The 3S is great bang-for-buck performance/looks but even a C5 Vette is closer to exotic than our car. Our engines arent even pointed the right way.
Put the crackpipe down.

Well do we consider the new gtr to be exotic? Because if we do the 3/s could be seen as a 90s exotic. I think that the 3/s is a pretty awesome car, but its not an exotic, i have to stay on my toes driving it. It has way to much to torque to just relax and drive it. Ive driven the new infiniti IPLs which are by no means exotic, it has similar power numbers and is just so easy to drive because theres less torque, so i would expect an exotic to perform like that, high power and a very smooth linear torque band
Only Japanese car that is an exotic in my mind is the NSX. Maybe some of the TommyKaira cars too, but I dont know much about those.
Tommy Kaira is to Nissan and the likes what RUF is to Porsche. Being obsessed with Nissan from a young age I got really into his re-vamps, and (of course) the ZZII. Outside of Japan, it typically falls into the realm of obscurity, but nice bringing that up!

The NSX is exotic, I agree on that point. The more rare the 3s gets, the more you can refer to it as exotic although purists will argue that point. I think the thing that separates us the most from "exotic" is the fact that true exotics do not have SOHC beater versions riding around in the ghetto. :-/
