BTW - my caps were replaced by AVPRO over a year ago - I checked them and they seemed fine.

Ok guys, I'm pretty sure that I removed the wrong thing. I found this link through searching.
http://stealth316.com/2-ecmremoval.htm I'll have to do that tomorrow, and put whatever the heck this thing is back in. What is this thing anyways? ![]() |

I believe the first thing you pulled was the ETACS computer.
Pulling the ECU is VERY easy. My son and I can have one out in < 5 minutes. 1 screw holding the carpeting on each side, then a ribbed type plastic screw on the far end needs to be pulled out. Carpet out, remove the 4 connectors on the ECU, pull 2 bolts and its out. We've pulled/swapped ECU's so many times, we're PROFESSIONALS!! ![]() Bob.

Sorry for the exremely long wait, its been real hectic around here. I did get the computer out, and replaced the caps. It didnt seem to make any difference. I am real close to buying an IAC, I just need to call my cousin's brother in law, who worked on imports for 10 years as a mech. I'll get his advice, and see what he says. I am almost positive its the IAC now. The weird thing is, the idle still comes up to compensate when I turn the wheel. I did take the IAC out, plugged it in, and looked to see if it sucked in when I turned the key to "on" It did suck in, but not all the way. I would assume that it is supposed to suck all the way in to let air in when the TB is closed?
I'll update again as soon as I talk to him. Sorry this is taking so long. ![]() |

cool...sounds good..keep me posted..i just gave my ECU to groud zero performance, a 3si shop in easton...told them to check it out and replace the caps..when I opened it up, I noticed the one of the rectangular chips inside was leaking something...looked like it was shorting out 4 pins..so who knows what that was...we'll find out I suppose...
also..i told Hans, the shop owner, how my ECS makes all kidns of noises at idle...like it's going in and out of tour/sport mode..he said that the caps also leak in the ECS computer and this can sometimes make the Fuel act funny, causing the car to buck back and forth...he said one way to dianose that is to simply unplug the ECS computer..then it won't mess with the ECM..i believe the ECS comp is in the trunk compartment, passenger side...but i could be wrong...look it up on stealth316.com if u wish...i'm gonna wait til I get my ECM back, then try he ECS computer thing. |

Well I brought my car to him yesterday, and we took a good look at it. He didnt have the computer to plug it in, but we just used the voltmeter in the plug in. Mine was throwing a MAF code, so we took it apart and cleaned it. Then it went away. He said the main thing is to replace the plugs and wires. Mine does have a slight miss, and he said that the 02 will read wrong, because it will be reading rich, and the ecu will try to adjust when it doesnt need to. Soooooo, this weekend project I think will be that.
I'm gonna figure out this friggin thing sooner or later, haha. ![]() |

hmm...does it miss at idle, or when u shovel down on the gas? mine bumbles around a little when I first start it, but once it's warmed up it's ok...my plugs and wires are pretty much new...mayber a few thousand miles on them...
i dunno..i'm gonna eventually try the ECS thing...it's nice that I can simply unplug it to diagnose it..he said it's very likely that that is causing the bucking...cuz the ECS computer comincates with the ECM for throttle position and whatnot... how did you clean the MAF? what did you clean, and what did you clean it with? |
