Default Dash Lights out?! (How to check Dimmer Switch)

Het guys,
My dash lights went out the other day after installing a new stereo in my 1995 3000gt. I checked every single fuse in the car and none were blown. Then my tail lights went, but that was a blown fuse. From what I have read about this problem the tail and dash lights are connected. So wouldnt that mean that a new fuse should have fixed both problems?

Anyway I have a feeling it is my dimmer switch, but how can I check that? Again though wouldn't that also effect the tail lights because they are on the same circuit?

Thanks alot guys for any help I am kinda lost here.

Did you check the engine bay fuse for the tail lights?

Sounds like a botched stereo install. Do you have a picture of the stereo connections?

Did you tape up the illumination wire so that it wouldn't ground against the chassis?
