Default Changing Side Skirts

I have a 1995 3K SL and I'm seriously thinking of swapping out the current Side Skirts with that of a 1st Generation. Will the 1st generation Sides Skirts fit into the 2nd Gen models? If so? Has anyone tried the swap before? Can the existing hardware be used? (Clips\screws\bolts)

I have 2nd gen too, I love the look of first gens as well. To your answer most people with first gens put on second gen skirts, yea it can be done pretty easily. Getting the paints too match won't be easy though. Finding 15 to 17 year old black paint, or red, or whatever thats not faded or something is kind of hard. Maybe a first gen owner with good paint will swap with you?

Thanks for the response. As soon as I finish paying off some bills, I will probably get the 1st gen side skirts from the junk yard or from ebay or something.

I agree about getting the paint to match (my car is factory red). Fortunately, I know this local guy who owns and operates a professional mobile paint service.

He basically fixes dents and specializes in painting bumpers, quarter panels and overall touch ups and such. He performs all of this at the customers site too. My spoiler was heavily faded from the elements (looked pinkish), he basically re-painted my spoiler to match the rest of the body. He did a damn great job too!!! I'm counting on him to do the same with the 1st gen Sides Skirts.

When the time comes, I will definately sell my 2nd gen SS's. I will ping you if you still need em. They are actually in really great shape.

The paint codes between 1st and 2nd gen are different, they will not match and may not even be close. All body panels from all 3000gt's are interchangeable but honestly, you are going to f*ck the value of your car doing this.

First gen skirts do not flow with second gen bumpers.

Not only are you going to kill your value but your going to destroy the smoothness 2g's have.

its only body work and its easily reversible, no need to tell him hes gonna ruin his car.

No one said it will ruin the car. It was said he will drop the value, and ruin the smooth lines.

Two completely different things.

It will take you 15 minutes to do the swap and another 15 to reverse the process one day if needed... Go ahead and do it if you like the 1st gens better. I personally like the 2nd gens, because they are a little bit wider and make the car look as if it was molded out of a teardrop... I don't know how exactly to explain it, but the car just looks so smooth with the 2nd gens. With that said, I also like the 1st gens very much. They have a little bit more enhanced curve at the bottom that makes the side view of the car a bit different - more aggressive. Anyway, good luck with the swap!

15 minutes?

You do realize you have to tear apart the interior rear speaker panel to get to a bolt that holds the rear section on dont you?
