By the way, I found myself a beater. Its a 1991 Ford Tempo (auto) 140 000 kms on it. Problem is, it doesn' t have an exhaust. The thing is louder than my VR4 running straight downpipe. Talk about a step down. Well, at least its not a minivan.

if you want to fix you car quick and cheap then buying a used engine is the only option. if you want to use forged internals then you need to start to look for 4 bolt block and spend alot of money and time.

Could this be somehow related to head lift? It seems like Cylinder #3 would be the most likely cylinder affected by head lift and I did have a case of suspected head lift a few weeks before. I pushed a large percentage of my coolant out while doing some WOT 3rd-4th-5th gear pulls vs. a mustang and I thought I'd blown my headgasket. However, when I did a leak down test, by pressurizing the cylinders with 150 psi of air, there was no change in my coolant level. I couldn't figure out why my coolant was boiling/being pushed out, so I switched to a 20 psi rad cap and filled my rad with H20 rather than coolant and I never really put the car through its paces again until the failure event.

Does anybody see a way the two could be related?
