yes their is a difference. In 1994 glass was used for the headlamp and 1995-1999 they used lexan.

The insert in the glass headlights can be painted or even changed out. 94 3000GT headlights match the color of the car. 94 Stealth headlights are always black but the insert can be changed out, although Stealths always have black lights.
To do an awd tt coversion with a new engine costs a lil over 20 g's to do it right, i almost did it. You would have to know cars like the back of your hand to be able to do all of that yourself. Why do you think only a few people have done it?
i painted my red sl headlights 1995 not glass. just ge a heat gun of som sort and bust the seal all around the headlight not hard time consuming and then seal it back up cant remember what i used whatever advance guy suggested for window seal good luck
