You beat the/bad drivers. A Vette will run circles around a 3/S at auto-x unless your heavily modded.

I used to auto-x, i raced a Miata which was awesome, narrow and short wheel base. great for dodging cones.

I also did the same in my stockish VR4, laughable perfomance. coil-overs made a HUGE difference.

Our cars have a ton of grip with the right tires and are easy to drive because we plow through turns and never really need to worry about the rear end coming around on you like you would in a Vette or similar car.

Jason:

I'm a novice auto-x'er and on my first time out, ever, I beat Miatas and C4 & C5 Vettes alike. Although I may have been beating the drivers, it is evidence that the platforms are not that far apart. I was on old stock ECS struts and intrax.

But how did this thread turn into 3/S vs. corvette?

Well, according to spies at the Ring, the ZR1s are lapping around or just under 7:40.

Have you seen one in person yet? If not, don't judge it quite yet. I really wasn't a big fan of the design either, but then I saw one at the Denver Auto Show. I must say, that thing looks about 100 times better in person than in any pictures I've ever seen. I fell in love with the looks. But then again, both the Z06 and ZR1 are beautiful enough to make me cry too lol. Tough choice.

$70+k. It would be worth $60k since you figure thats the inflation adjusted price of a $48k VR-4 from 15 years ago

First gen VR-4s were well under $40. Mine stickered for I think $34,000ish in 1992.

Yeah second gens had a massive price jump which is why sales plummeted.
