Default Another Comparo discovery: '98 Car & Driver w/ VR-4

In the past, I've posted several '90's comparo's involving the 3S from Car & Driver and Motor Trend. In case you missed them, here they are:

1993 Motor Trend Five Car Comparo w/ VR-4
Another Five Car Comparo Motor Trend 1993 w/ VR-4

1993 Car & Driver Six Car Comparo w/ VR-4
http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=262686

1992 Motor Trend Four Car Comparo w/VR-4
http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=262921

I sent these to Jeff Lucious at Stealth316 a year ago because he wanted to add them to his library, but he never did.

Well, I recently stumbled across another comparo, this one a Car & Driver from 1998. This one mixes it up a little and includes the VR-4, Supra, C5 Vette, and BMW M3. And can you believe it? The Supra actually DOESN'T WIN! However, the 3S tradition of coming in dead last in every comparo stays intact.

Anyway, everybody read it and then post your opinions.

Mods, if you want to move this to the "Technical Documents" section like you did in the past, go for it.

Ouch! The other three cars scored 93, 92, and 91 with
the VR4 coming in at only 85 points. I remember this
test when it came out. Although some of the complaints
are legitimate, the article seems a bit biased.

Car and Driver takes it up the ass for M3's

They have done several comparisons with different cars where the M3 looses in the majority of the measurements BUT it still wins overall becausee it is the Ultimate driving machine?

I guess that means that Car and driver comparisons don't have any meaning

Car and Driver LOVES BMW. If there's a BMW in a comparo they do, it will get 1st 99% of the time. Cramped headroom in the VR4? Either all the testers were NBA players or they couldn't figure out the seat controls. I'm at least 6' and I feel like I have plenty of room to spare.

Sorry to burst any bubbles, but did it ever occur to anyone that maybe there must have been something about the VR-4 that made it come last in almost every magazine comparison test it was in?

Isn't it kind of strange that not one, not two, but almost every magazine comparison put the VR-4 in last place...?? Maybe the VR-4 is at fault..

Just Kidding

Just my opinion but car and driver seems to think that AWD is cheating, not a true driving expereince unless you are a ralley driver. I bet i could take the exact same VR-4 that they drag test and drop 1/2 second off thier times, most tests have the time over 14 seconds. Our cars take a little skill to launch, they drive a little differnt than RWD cars so they tend to get ignored.

A lighter car like an M3 probably has a lot crisper handling and better road feel, Even if I could turn a faster lap in a VR-4 its not what they want to drive so it looses comparisons.

But personally I like surprisingthe crap out of other drivers at drag strips and road courses, If I loose to a Viper everyone acts like the HeavyWeight championof the world just beat me in a street fight, nobody cares, But If I beat a Viper everyone is shocked and amazed. I can't loose

I'm 6-5" and 260lbs and I am about as big as you can comfortably fit in a VR-4
