I cannot get these things to budge one mm with everything I've got! I've let them soak in PB and I've broken my homemade breaker bar I've tried bouncing on the thing with all my weight (not much my heavier friends are on their way no joke) and I ran a hammer into my leg.

Any suggestions? I'm stumped?

Btw I'm replacing the half shafts since my stock ones are shot to hell (click click click every single turn :( embarrassing)

Thanks in advance,

Raising CR 96 NA DOHC 3kgt

So I was thinking of pulling off the heads off my girlfriend's 3000gt. Probably going to have them rebuilt slightly ported and replacing the lifters with the big bore ones to help with the lifter tick and extra strain on the motor. Now I was thinking of raising the CR while I was it, Either by using a thinner HeadGasket or shaving the head's down a bit. Now I don't know too much about these engines(heads) but I do know a bit about engines in general. So far All we have done are new spark plugs, belts, tranny filter oil change, and a strut bar =p. Also have an ebay intake which should be fun=p Further mods will be downpipe and a test pipe. So back to the compression ratio. Does anyone know the sock CR on these DOHC engines? how about valve/piston clearance? piston/top of the block space(i forgot the technical term for this) Any sources of thinner headgaskets and calculations of how much this would raise CR? how much is the most you would shave off each head???? Any info is greatly appreciated.
( I was thinking of cams but damn they are expensive... my 8valve volvo uses 1 cam =p and it smokes the 3kgt... not cool needs more powarz!!! )

More questions... heehee:
Stock fuel preassure is 2.5bar?
injector size? in lb/hour preferably.

Converting a Automatic to Manual (Have the parts)

Hey guys, I might receive some criticism for this, however, hear me out first.
I am a proud owner of a 91 Dodge Stealth R/T DOHC and have put an enormous amount of work into her lately. All of a sudden she stopped running and I couldn't figure it out for a while so I bought another stealth. The new one was a 92 Dodge stealth R/T DOHC. This one also had a manual tranny while the 91 had an automatic. However, the 92 isn't in nearly the same shape as the my original baby. Suddenly, after kinda tinkering around with the 91 for fun, me and my buddy got the girl running again. So now I have two stealths and am probably going to use the new 92 as a parts car because the interior is disgusting and it has a significant amount of rust while the old one has none.
Here's the thing though, I've really fallen in love with the manual tranny now and would like to make it a project to convert the automatic to a stick this summer. But I've been researching on what I would need and the cost of doing it, does anyone have any suggestions? I can't seem to find any reliable sources of information for doing this, so any suggestions would help! Thanks :)

I bought myself a set of 99 (big bore) lifters from 3sx and i need them installed... I for one cannot do it. I have looked up the how to and I WILL screw something up so I turned to my dad who owns a GM dealership in town and he or his mechanics will not touch it because it is "rice". So....Dealership time.

What is a dealership going to realistically charge to install the lifters and a new oil pan. While they are at it I might have them install some solid mount motor mounts.....

I would call the dealership but , i want i real world price, they are going to tell me some bullshit guess. Also are they even reliable....with the car being so old are they going to f**k it up and not do it right?

My goals with this fix are to know i can rev to 7k and not blow up lol and to get rid of that:ak47: G*d D**N F*****ing Piece of S**t TICK!..... It drive me insane .... [/Rant]

Thanks

Well on the way home from a friends tonight the car started over heating on the highway, so i turned the heat on fullblast and the temp did come down. then I proceeded to take the car back up to speed (70mph) then the temp starting to climb again. Then I got off of the highway, and drove back roads, not really gettin over 50-55mph and the car never over heated. I tried one more time to get it up to 70, and the temp started to climb again. Coolant level is where it is supposed to be, and everything looks fine from what I can tell. What could this be, any help is greatly appreciated fellas!!!

I have a '94 3000 N/A stock. This is my first import car, having mostly owned Chevy vehicles. It was in the 40's tonight here in Alabama, so not extremely cold. I noticed when I put my car in nuetral while rolling or coasting the rpms jumped back and forth from about 1.5k to 3k. When i came to a complete stop it quit. I tought maybe it was the accelerator with a little hang up but I'm not familiar with this car yet. Is this normal? Easily fixed? or serious? Thanks.

Oil Pressure/Water Temp gauge problems

So after putting on aftermarket speedhut gauge faces I ran into a problem with the oil pressure and water temp gauges not working at all. I know people are going to say just go aftermarket, but I really want to know the fix to this problem, the volt meter and tach work fine, im sure the speedo will as it is a mechanical gauge (first gen SL) any advice on where to start and what to look for?

ok i have a 93 3000GT 5sp. it will turn over and almost start but wont start all the way. i checked spark and i get spark from both wires coming off the center coil but not the other two coils. if i move the coils around i still only get spark from the center coil so i know its not bad coils. they all work when they are in the center spot. i changed the ignition control module and it still wont work. i cleaned all the conections and it still wont work. i did get it to work for a few days after i moved the coils around the first time but than it stopped and i am having the same problem. i tryed changing the coils around again and it didnt work this time. does anyone have a idea?

Weird Coolant light issue

Well hello everyone i have an issue that is stumping me.
Today i changed my brake pads. This was like at 1 in the afternoon. At 3 i decided to head out to my friend's house because we were going to the shooting range. I pulled out of the drive way and i see the coolant light on. Right away i pulled to the side and checked if it was low. I open the cap and i could see the coolant and did not seem low but decided to see if i put water would it take it. Well i was right and it was full. So i leave my car at my friends house and we leave. I get back at 6 and turn the car on and the light is still on. I go home and search to find out what could it be.
1st. I checked all the connections all of them properly connected.
2nd. Check the reservoir, at the half way mark.
3rd. Double check the connections again.
4th. I decided to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes and see if it would go away.
The light is still on. Well i drove the car to see if it would act up. 10 miles going to my destination and 10 coming back. The coolant temperature never rose above normal.

I would like to see if anyone else can give me some input on this. Im pretty lost at this point.

Thanks in advance for any input.

ok, so i have a 1994 3000gt dohc and its compleatly rebuilt, bored out, new pistons, rings, bearings, seals, gaskets, pumps, heads readone, its a brand new engine that i rebuilt. everything was meticulously checked and rechecked while being put together, but when i started it today for the first time it started making this loud ticking noise. i started freaking out got all mad was about to blow the car up when we checked the timing. the sprockets and crank all line up, timing is perfect on them, but when i took a gun to the car and started flashing the pully i saw that i was 20 degrees advanced. so i now know what the ticking is. here is the question tho, how to i adjust the timing on this car?

Earlier in the week I unbolted the downpipe (just cause) and put it back on. Today I went out for a drive, and when I got back I popped the hood and found some white smoke coming out from it looked like between the downpipe and header and it smelled like something was burning. Anybody experience something similar or know what it is?

Please don't say head gasket :(

K and N Air Filter Horsepower gains??

I just installed the k and n airfilter for my car and made a mount so it didnt just wobble around. But how much horsepower should I gain from this? I know its not much, or would i just gain throttle response? The car seems to have more life at the higher r's. and I know this sounds dumb but It seems like my car is just reving better which in return and making my exhaust sound amazing!

If anyone has any real world estimates on hp gain let me know.... Also would I have been better off buying a CAI?:(

No Start

Hi everyone. I was given a 3000GT 5spd SL and it doesn't start. I tried giving it a boost, but I get nothing more from it other than a whimper from the starter. The engine does not turn over, doesn't even turn for one full rotation before it gives up.

Here's a breakdown of what we tried. Jumper cables connected, ignition in key. Dash lights comes on, and chime too. The chrime sounded weak to me. Interior lights came on also. Radio was powered, and headlights turn on. Turn ignition key to START possition, and hear a loud clicking noise followed by a whimper from the starter. Tried this for over an hour, no results. Removed the battery to bypass, still nothing. Revved my car to give it more boost, no go.

Here's a few things I noticed. The built-in volt-meter in the 3000GT shows 12 volts when it's jumped. As soon as I try to crank it, volt drops all the way. Tailights turn off and goes dim. It draws so much power that the other car's headlight turns dim, and the alarm in the 3000GT get's reset.

A little background about me. I work on cars as a hobby. I do read and appreciate Factory Service Manuals(I need one for this car if anyone has one). I understand current, volt, and resistance in electricity. I understand the fundamentals of engines. Some work I've done in the past includes repairing an auto tranny, t-belt replacement, and front-end suspension work. I prefer to keep the car's I drive stock. This one is very much stock.

If I had to guess, I'd say either the starter is dying, or the engine is hard to turn over. I don't have experience with either of these, so I'm asking for help from the experienced folks here at 3Si.

Everything seemed to rotate freely on the head, so we went ahead and replaced the t-belt water pump. We started it up ran good for a second they just started runnin like ass. We did a compression test across the front bank I've god 25 at cylinder 1 and 0 at cylinder 3 but I have 140 at cylinder 5. I'm thinking possible headgasket. What would my next move be for diag. If I can get this car running I can have it for the cost of parts. Any helpwould be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In a previous thread i was instructed on the replacement of the fuel pickup tube. I followed that writeup and it went great. No leaks . the writeup is this one

http://www.3si.org/forum/f1/how-fix-fuel-tank-studs-convert-fuel-pump-assy-420892/

Sadly the car idles fine but shuts off shortly after I go on the road and won't restart for 1/2 hr. the car is a 1994 sohc stealth , auto with 155,000 miles on it.

i disconnected the banjo bolt at the filter and had a friend crank it. there was fuel there so i assumed the filter and pump were okay. but now i purchased a fuel presssure gauge and attatched it to the fuel filter at the banjo bolt. i also used fuel injection line and clamps. when the engine was running at idle the gauge had a reading of 38-40 psi. i revved it and the psi went up 5-7 psi. after that i removed the gauge and reinstalled the banjo bolt with a new washer. car still idled fine. i then squeezed the vacuum line going to fuel pressure regulator and noticed that the rpm dropped sightly . i was told that this was how to test the regulator. well car still idles for as long as i let it run in my driveway. once i take it on the road it will run fine for about 10 min than start to hesitate, stumble, lose power and finally die out. will not start for another 20-30 min. when it does than it will run as previously described. if there is anything else that i can do any help would be greatly appreciated.

took it on the road with the fuel gauge attatched to see if there was any change in the pressure when it would start to fail. All through the drive including when it shut off the fuel pressure would only fluctuate when I stepped on the accelerator. How can changing the fuel pickup tube cause this? was running great before. any help would be appreciated. also i do have the service manual just don't know where to start.

i have a 99 3000gt dohc non turbo automatic. the crank pulley recently went bad and i had bought a used 3sx stock size light weight pulley from ebay. i removed the old one with no problem but wen i attempt to torque down the new one the crank just spins. i do not have an impact gun. and the car is an auto so there is no putting it in gear and holding the break. i am afraid if i lock the cams that wen i torque it the belt may jump a tooth! any suggestions to help me with my little problem would be great. and if anyone knows the crank bolt torque spec and if i should use a little bit of lock tight on the bolt. thanks!

Alright well i have a 1994 stealth sohc 5 speed and spun a bearing, so i replace it with a 1993 stealth es sohc atx trans motor. Once the swap was done we tried starting it and it would'nt because of the starter so we pushed it and popped the clutch and it started up. I backed it up into the garage and it ran fine so i shut it down. The next day we had to push and pop the clutch again because the starter was still messed up so we did and it was fine up until it just started ideling weird for a few seconds and just shut off. I was low on gas so i thought that i just ran out of gas, so i just kept it off until tommorrow when i get gas. So i got the gas and put it in and started her up(i replaced the starter) and it ran fine for about 5 min and then started to idel real funny again the rpms going up and down until it finally died. So we turned the idel up ALOT with the screw on the throttle body and it will run but i need to know whats up with this so i can put the idel back down to were it's suppose to be.

ok im new to this forum so i didnt know if this was supposed to be in the advanced Technical discussions or here.. bu ti'll just start in this one. I'm currently looking to buy a 95 3000gt SL. Problem is the guy said he bored the engine half an inch wider. he said he changed pretty much the whole fuel management system parts, stage 2 clutch and and not sure if he said the exhaust systems too but ill ask tomorrow. What i'm wondering though is, is the engine boring going to affect the car's reliability or longevity? and is there any risks of it being more prone to breaking down than an unbored engine?.. thanks in advance for all the help

1995 Dodge Stealth RT.

Car just cuts right off as I approach stop light. When I attempt to start back up it may start up but I have to hold the gas and or keep the idle high above 1000 RPM. If I let off the gas it cuts back off. Car had been running fine forever now. Any ideas. I have about 155k on original engine.

Entire fuel assembly has been replaced recently about 4 motnhs ago.
ATX tranny replaced about 7 months ago.

If anyone can suggest anything I can try to fix that would be great. Also the check engine light did flash on during highway driving when I was trying to get the car back home tonight. It acted as if it was going to shut down while I was driving 65mph on the freeway but did not go off until I stopped again.

Changed Slave still an issue

Ok so I just got done changing the slave cylinder thinking that this might remedy the fact that I find it hard to get into gear. This did not help at all but while bleeding the slave I did see that the clutch fork that the slave is supposedly pushing isn't actually pushing back on the slave which I think is the whole problem and the reason for my squishy clutch pedal despite the stage3 clutch package. I was able to easily move this fork back and forth while the slave was out (normal?). I also noticed that the master comes out of the firewal a few mm when pushing the clutch in is this normal?

Ok guys thanks in advance,
Bart

Some times going as high as 2k and swing to .2.5k. Then to 1k and swing to 1.5 k. the swing happens every few seconds- no light or misses and does not surge when under load. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Leaking oil out of valve cover

I was going to take my valve cover off and when I got all the bolts out, I found out that I had to go somewhere. So I put them back in and left. When I got where I was going I smelled burning oil... so I popped the hood and I saw oil leaking out of the valve cover (not a ton, just kind of drooling out).

I found that two of the bolts (the closest one to me on the left and middle) would no longer screw in. Is the block stripped??? All I did was take them out and put them back in, could this have messed it up?

I'm changing out my plugs and I've tried searching, so before you guys jump on me for that...

What is the best spark plug for the 3s? I have a DD N/A DOHC, if any of that matters. I'm looking at the NGK website and for my car it has:

-NGK traditional spark plug
-NGK V-power spark plug
-NGK GP Platinum
-NGK Laser Iridium Long-life
-NGK IX Iridium
-NGK Double Platinum

Basically, I want to know what is going to be the best mixture of performance and longevity. Thanks in advance and I'm sure I'm running out of these stupid questions, so there shouldn't be too many more in the future ;)

Update: More pics on page 2!

I have a 98 SL with 129k. I got the car at 101k, and have done the 120k, and other regular maintenance. I noticed a small dent in my oil pan, then I started watching my stock oil pressure gauge closely. I know I need an aftermarket one to know for sure, but my oil gauge always reads about 2.5-3 ticks past the bottom big one. As my searching went, I found that to be normal. But Im just trying to do this as some preventative maintenance. The oil pan has a red gasket, so Im not first one to take the pan off...

Anyway, I dropped my oil pan to beat out the dent before anything serious happened. I found one semi large piece of non-magnetic metal in my oil pan, and 3 or 4 very small magnetic rocks (The gray thing is rubbery, which im guessing is part of the gasket, even though this one isnt stock). I was told to look for stuff in the oil pan, so I did. Heres what I got. Anything to be worried about? And the oil line on the strainer, is that normal?
