How much was the factory price on a dodge stealth?? I have been wondering, and have heard some pretty crazy prices. My insurance agent told me they were $50000 brand new?!? that sounds steep to me. Im just curious about it, and cant find anything about it

Hi there,

beeing a newbee....I have read alot of posts about low oil pressure, but not come across the ultimate answer (....sure not all oil pressure issues require the same solution) but there has to be a few normal solutions for this !

Car has good pressure under cold condition, but when warm.. pressure drops to 2nd mark, and under idel falls to just under 1st mark..and oil lamp flickers..
Engine was rebuild 5k since, and with new parts !
Just replaced oil and filter....same problem !

Help apreciated !

New '92 VR4 Owner

Like the title says...I just picked up a '92 3000gt vr4. Body has 214k on it, has junk yard motor in it with supposedly 60-70k on it, clutch has supposedly 4k on it and doesn't feel bad. I've had an '85 MR2, an '89 Conquest TSi, a beater isuzu 4x4, and currently drive a jeep cherokee as a DD, but I am pretty tired of driving the jeep on the road (I drive at least 45 minutes to school each morning in Indy and it gets horrible mpg and isn't fun on the road! offroad it is great though) All of my cars up until this Jeep XJ have been manual trans, and I sorely missed having one, but auto is definitely the way to go offroad....Anyways...

Its complete, and the body is in pretty good shape for this many miles. Has rust forming on driver side rear where bumper meets fender and front where front bumper meets fender. Nothing horrible but that will probably be my next fix, is having the body work done once its up and running.

The guy I bought it from had been using it as a DD for the year and half that he owned it. It ran very very poorly.

So, first things first, getting the engine running right! Got all the service manuals and got to reading...I ohmd out the injectors and coil packs. Those were all good. Removed the plenum and did compression test. It has EXCELLENT compression, and had 3 different types of spark plugs xD haha (someone was too lazy to remove the plenum to change the rears) Anyways...everything checked out great, but it still was throwin a CEL and running rough, definitely misfiring. (Got very good at removing/installing the plenum because the threads for half the bolts on it were stripped from previous owners so called "mechanic" so we helicoiled 'em.)

We pulled injector plugs on a cylinder and it didn't run any differently so it was obviously that cylinder. Got out the spark plug test light and plugged it between the coil and plug and sure enough that coil isn't putting out spark, however the coil itself had the same ohm reading as the rest, and the power transistor looks to be brand new. (they had it laying on top of the intake pipes and a tiny guage wire literally wrapped through a whole and then bolted to a rusty bolt on the radiator support to ground it. It was definitely not a good ground, intermittent at best, and we fixed that the first night we had it.)

So we checked continuity of the harness to the ECU and it was good. We pulled out the ECU which was remarkably easy as it was not bolted in, and the pins for the carpet panels were missing. So the ECU was just layin down chillin in there. The guy I bought it from said he had the caps replaced...looks like someone didn't know what they were doing and soldered the through hole caps from the top, lol looked like a horrible solder job, but probably good enough. We were fairly certain it was an ECU problem and sent it to AvPro to get it repaired, waiting to get it back!!

Interior is dirty and front seats are pretty torn up. This car was not loved. All switches are there except the Active Exhaust switch is missing. ECS switch doesn't seem to work, I was told the passenger window will roll down but not up, and I think the sunroof crank may be stripped. Trans wants to grind (syncros probably) especially third, but if i go from second to neutral and slide the shifter left and right then go to third it doesn't grind :/ lol. Drivers power seat all works (bolsters, lumbar etc) Overall I'm pretty happy with it. I can tell it will be fast eventually even on only 4 cylinders xD.

So, there you have it. Sorry its so long, I can't really post in any other sections cuz I'm a "new member" So I get to be in here and read questions about if people can "lift" their cars  to each their own I suppose.

Can't wait to get my ECU back and plug it in.

I figured since i don't have a LOT of moeny I would upgrade to the '94 headlights, maybe '95 since they're not glass. Do these work with my front bumper I currently have stock '93.

I can also make them fit the bucket right, no real huge mods to do to make these puppies fit? I just want the flip up gone..

Whatever work there is to do please advise. ;']

Thank you! :)

I need a new ignition lock, maybe a turbo set, and a starter. she wont crank over, but the relay fires. First Turbo/awd car owner finally! 92 Dodge Stealth Rt/TT 127k for a 96 Jeep Cherokee that was no looker.

Need an unknown window track part...

Hey all,

Some vandals smashed in my driver side window (well, the car is right-hand drive, so passenger side for all you people on the left side of the car), and it looks like some sort of plastic thing has broken off that guides the window to go straight up and down. My passenger side has it, but my driver's side no longer does. Just installed a new motor, and the window will only go up and down when you help pull it up because it's going down into the door frame at a really funny angle.

What part do I need to fix this? Anyone know? it wasn't part of the new window regulator....

1999 3000gt SL overheating

Hey guys im a recent owner of a 99 3000gt SL and one day driving to class it started overheating. The temp gauge went almost all of the way up very quickly so i pulled over immediately. I walked down to autozone and got coolant because it was running low. I gave it a while then turned it back on and the radiator fans were not spinning at all. I also noticed that the heat and AC didnt work either. I brought it to my mechanic and he could make the fans turn on by hotwiring it but they wouldnt stay on by themselves. Checked all the fuses and relays and they all seem fine. Someone told me it could be an ECU problem but im not really sure what that all has to do with the ECU, like i sed the car is very new to me. Also the MAP sensor on the top of my intake plenum was cracked and broke off and someone told me that could also be the problem. If anyone has experienced similar problems or knows what it could be I would appreciate any help i can get. Thanks guys

Well i bought a 94 vr4 pearl white 3000gt back in july of 08, a day after i bought it i had a shifter fork go! And at the same time a vavle in #3 cylinder. Anyways long story short. Im rebuilding the thing into a Weekend Warrior. Im in the process of removing the heads, then im taking them in to get oversized valves, springs, etc, and to be reshaped. Supposedly the last owner had the heads ported and polished but i dont believe it.... Back to what im building this car with, is going to be pair of td05 evo III kit from 3sx seems to be best bang for buck i have been able to find, along with some 750cc, returnline, fpr, walbro 255, i was going to build myself my own hardline piping for FMIC because i have all winter to fab things up and what not. I have been reading up on MAFT, and what not im not very fimliar with this. And as far as tuning i was thinking of going with AEM, but what is all needed with this setup as for sensors? Im expecting to pay around $10,000 + for parts since i will be doing all the work myself, so no labour is going to be included in my budget range, as far as maintanice, i have the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, all that stuff for 60K all ready which will be done while in process of rebuilding heads, as far as changing cams is it worth it what kind of gains are expected out of it? Also i just rebuilt the entire tranny with 6 puck clutch, I know i have many questions but could someone please take the time to help answer some, or anyone with similar mods and what route they went with, and how it turned out so i can expect what to get out of it.

Hi all, hopefully someone can help me out here, I've searched and can't find anything... sorry for the n00b question :o

I had a roving idle so I thought it would be the ISC. I took it off and cleaned it, but the o-ring/seal has magically expanded and won't fit back in its hole.

So I figure I'll just get a new seal. Can the seal be bought separately from the ISC itself? If so, can anyone quote me the part number? I've had a look through the Rockville Mitsu online catalog but can't seem to find just the o-ring. I guess if all else fails I could just get a generic o-ring, but what size (I don't know because mine is now too big!)?

Stealth RT Overheating on Cold start????

Hey guys, I searched everywhere I really need some help. My 95 stealth rt 5spd with 167k (one owner before me) is overheating bad according the gauge. After letting the car sit in about 40 degree weather overnight, I turn it on and the gauge shoots right up to almost the red block on the temp. gauge. Even If i let it idle the temperature will go over the red block if i keep it on for 2 mins or so. Meanwhile, I can put my hand on the valve cover and radiator and it doesnt burn me at all but it should right? So what gives?

The air is cold when i put the heater on full blast (eventually warms up like normal), so im like thats impossible that my car is actually overheating that quick. So i check my coolant, nothing is leaking, its full, I replace the thermostat with one from autozone, same problem, no difference really. The coolant is flowing because I can feel the radiator gradually warm up and the coolant swirling when I take off the cap and I bled out most of the air bubbles. (there wasn't that many to begin with.

Ok so what do I do? I'm about ready to give in and take it to the stealership but id rather just fix it myself I know its gotta be something stupid. No coolant in the oil, if so its minimal, and no white smoke out of the exhaust, coolant is flowing so it shouldn't be the headgasket or waterpump correct? Perhaps I need a radiator flush or new temp sensor?

HELP!!!!!! lol please..

Tested it out, great deal so far, 92 vr4, Stock with 56k miles. $5k

Checked everything in the car to make sure it worked and it does. also the active aero and the usual things to check when looking to buy a used car.

One of the problems i seen while driving was it was jumping like crazy, first i thought it was me giving and letting go of the gas, but it wasn't that. the car is jumping like it was in a great need of a tuneup. Worked smooth in 5th tho.

The guy also doesn't drive it much. that might be why also.

Any suggestions? ;)

Vendors? OEM or Aftermarket?

Hi. I'm still new to 3Si.org and 3000GT's. Some of you may have read my other post regarding starting issues, that's been resolved for now.

There's another issue that I'd like to get fixed sooner than later. The engine sputters and sometimes stalls when idle. There are some sparks coming from the base of the distributor. Seems that I'll be needing ignition wires soon. Does anyone know who's the OEM, or what's a good aftermarket? I'm mainly looking for low cost here, rather than performance parts.

In general, are there any recommended vendors for parts for these cars? What's the best Service Manual for the 3000?

Thanks!

A different hydrolock thread

Ok so I hydrolocked the car a while back. Then that night, because everyone hydrolocked their cars and had to be towed, it got broken into and robbed, bye bye gps and sound system, but that's another story lol. Anyways, my knowledge of hydro lock was slim and i tried to crank it a couple times thinking that water got into the exhaust and just stalled.

I figured out it was hydrolocked drained the oil and did a few oil changes. Changed the spark plugs and the car runs. It actually feels like it's pulling fine and everything but the engine whines now. Someone told me it could be a bent rod, but it's not a knock it's a whine. I've probably put about a thousand miles on it since the hydrolock because at that point i was thinking screw this car i'll just drive it till it blows up cause any repairs are more than the grand i paid for it.

I guess what i'm asking is what could cause the engine to have the mechanical whining sound? Aside from a backfire here and there the car still seems to run fine, and i drive it alot daily. Thanks to anyone who want to offer their wisdom to my crappy sohc ha ha.

Also car is a first gen sohc stealth.

So with that I've been search for something like a haynes repair manuel for a 98 3/s base but haven't come up with anything thus far. Was woundering if anyone knew where I'd be able to purchase one or if they even make them for this car.

Also If anyone knows where to get a cheap driver side window from verses the 180 from that parts store that would be a great help as well. Thanks for you time and input.

Well i was out logging my runs, and everything was working fine. After awhile i noticed that it got unhooked as no numbers or data was showing on the logger. after i hooked it back up now its not showing anything, it's under monitor mode, its unpaused also. I noticed that it does show some data but very odd, i was idling and it says my rpms were at 6500? and then just a bunch of random data appears. Did i do something wrong? It was working fine until it got unhooked, and all the wires are in the right spot. it only shows the front o2 sensor randomly, timing, and rpms. nothing else, and it's all wrong data as i'm not idling at the numbers it shows. anyway to reset? or is it messed up for good?

Idle RPM/Lights issue

Hey guys,

My car has a warm idle of about 600RPM, which is relatively low. When it idles at that RPM the car has a nasty, rumbling shake to it, and if I have my lights on (notice it in the dash lights most) they dim a bit. So, 2 questions

1) How do I get my idle up around 800-1100 where it's supposed to be?
2) Will this fix my issue with the lights dimming?

I realize that the idle slowing down so far obviously slows down the belts and thus slows down the alternator, which most likely causes the dimming, but how can I fix my idling issue?

Thanks!

so i bought myself some new glow gauges and i started the pita dash removal. but when i got the center vents out, i felt it twist, sorta. i didnt know what happened so i figured id check when the dash was out. then i came to the center 3 gauges. when i took the 2 bottom screws out the gauges fell. like, nothing else was holding them in. so i finally got the dash out and saw that someone else has had this dash out.

the center vent. the bracket that holds it in place? yeah. someone got lazy and bent the bracket down. im guessing to get the center gauges out. and the center gauges, the top bracket things it "swings" from are mangled all to hell. i honestly dont know how they stayed in so good.

question. is this gonna be okay? lol. i cant really fix the gauge brackets, and the vent bracket can maybe be bent back. but if i just mount the gauges with the 2 bolts on the bottom will they sit as good as they did? i imagine they would because they sat so good on broken brackets ever since i bought it. but i just dont want to get this dash together and have some crooked ghetto gauges. cause this dash removal SUCKS.

thanks in advance for any help :D

so my cars been overheating for the past couple of months (put in storage for winter and repairs) and its most likely a cracked head gasket. if i drive the car normally the car will not over heat except maybe 3 hours of highway driving. if i drive the car agressively (especially 3rd gear and up) it will quickly overheat. when it does overheat my cooling system empty's through the overflow reservoir. i was at my local autozone and saw this stuff called blue devil and costs 60 bucks.it has a gaurantee to fix a cracked head gasket if the car can idle for 50 mins without overheating but idk if its worth the risk. any other opinions? i heard a head gasket repair job is around 1500 so idk wat my options are. any feedback would be appreciated

Widest tire to fit on 17"x9" wheel with no issue?

I tried to research this on the forums and ended up not much further ahead than when I started. The facts:

5zigen Fnork 17x9" wheels (+34) offset I believe, currently stretched with 255/45 rubber which needs replacement.

I researched stock tire height (based on 245/45/17 of 25.68"), and the closest height to stock match I could find to that height was 275/40/17 which ring in at 25.66". Seems good to me, and a better match than what I have now. However, will they stretch on a 9" wheel, and more importantly, will they clear without rubbing on a stock 94 RT TT?

Thanks,

So I was wondering where I should buy my timing belt and water pump from?I was thinking from 3sx but its a bit pricey or does anyone know cheaper? Some people recommended me not to buy parts from autozone, and then some other mechanics told me that autozone has parts and it will perform the same task and be just as reliable from as if you were buying from the factory...so im confused, Where should i buy my parts from and where can i get a good deal?
