Yet another car with low oil pressure

Hi there,

beeing a newbee....I have read alot of posts about low oil pressure, but not come across the ultimate answer (....sure not all oil pressure issues require the same solution) but there has to be a few normal solutions for this !

Car has good pressure under cold condition, but when warm.. pressure drops to 2nd mark, and under idel falls to just under 1st mark..and oil lamp flickers..
Engine was rebuild 5k since, and with new parts !
Just replaced oil and filter....same problem !

Help apreciated !

I just finished watching WW II in HD. We need to remember the men and women who served in WWII. At the end, it said only 10% of those who served are still alive today. The generation that did more to shape our world today are dieing off. So, the next time you see a man in his 80's or 90's, there's a good chance he helped get us what we have today. You might want to thank them. :)

Hey guys,

I am expecting the worst here but here's my story. I was driving home from work and hit about 6500RPM on the highway shifting from 3-4.

Then crusied on the highway for 5 mins to my off ramp. When I got on the off ramp I heard a ticking, no louder than regular lifter tick, my car has never had lifter tick since owning it though (luck I guess).

From the offramp to my house is about a 2 min drive, didn't drive it hard at all to my house. Shut it down, waited until the next chance I had and did an oil change. Started the car up after changing oil, no more tick.

When dumping the old oil into the oil container there were a few very small (1/2 a millimeter) gold flakes in the oil.

Best case scenario?
Worst case scenario?

I cannot get these things to budge one mm with everything I've got! I've let them soak in PB and I've broken my homemade breaker bar I've tried bouncing on the thing with all my weight (not much my heavier friends are on their way no joke) and I ran a hammer into my leg.

Any suggestions? I'm stumped?

Btw I'm replacing the half shafts since my stock ones are shot to hell (click click click every single turn :( embarrassing)

Thanks in advance,

Hello. I'm currently attending school and am considering building an engine for my car to use as a dd. I have a stock 94 engine that needs a rebuild anyway so i was thinking...would it be worth it?
Im was planning on boring it out maybe .40 over although i was reading .015 might be safer. getting new internals, port and polish heads/intake, and new cams. would this be worth the amount of money for the power id make. i realize being an na atx it wont be quick as hell.
Just looking for some insight from a more expeirienced mind basically.
Thanks in advance for any help. ill be gone till monday but hopefully i have some nice responses when i come back :D

New '92 VR4 Owner

Like the title says...I just picked up a '92 3000gt vr4. Body has 214k on it, has junk yard motor in it with supposedly 60-70k on it, clutch has supposedly 4k on it and doesn't feel bad. I've had an '85 MR2, an '89 Conquest TSi, a beater isuzu 4x4, and currently drive a jeep cherokee as a DD, but I am pretty tired of driving the jeep on the road (I drive at least 45 minutes to school each morning in Indy and it gets horrible mpg and isn't fun on the road! offroad it is great though) All of my cars up until this Jeep XJ have been manual trans, and I sorely missed having one, but auto is definitely the way to go offroad....Anyways...

Its complete, and the body is in pretty good shape for this many miles. Has rust forming on driver side rear where bumper meets fender and front where front bumper meets fender. Nothing horrible but that will probably be my next fix, is having the body work done once its up and running.

The guy I bought it from had been using it as a DD for the year and half that he owned it. It ran very very poorly.

So, first things first, getting the engine running right! Got all the service manuals and got to reading...I ohmd out the injectors and coil packs. Those were all good. Removed the plenum and did compression test. It has EXCELLENT compression, and had 3 different types of spark plugs xD haha (someone was too lazy to remove the plenum to change the rears) Anyways...everything checked out great, but it still was throwin a CEL and running rough, definitely misfiring. (Got very good at removing/installing the plenum because the threads for half the bolts on it were stripped from previous owners so called "mechanic" so we helicoiled 'em.)

We pulled injector plugs on a cylinder and it didn't run any differently so it was obviously that cylinder. Got out the spark plug test light and plugged it between the coil and plug and sure enough that coil isn't putting out spark, however the coil itself had the same ohm reading as the rest, and the power transistor looks to be brand new. (they had it laying on top of the intake pipes and a tiny guage wire literally wrapped through a whole and then bolted to a rusty bolt on the radiator support to ground it. It was definitely not a good ground, intermittent at best, and we fixed that the first night we had it.)

So we checked continuity of the harness to the ECU and it was good. We pulled out the ECU which was remarkably easy as it was not bolted in, and the pins for the carpet panels were missing. So the ECU was just layin down chillin in there. The guy I bought it from said he had the caps replaced...looks like someone didn't know what they were doing and soldered the through hole caps from the top, lol looked like a horrible solder job, but probably good enough. We were fairly certain it was an ECU problem and sent it to AvPro to get it repaired, waiting to get it back!!

Interior is dirty and front seats are pretty torn up. This car was not loved. All switches are there except the Active Exhaust switch is missing. ECS switch doesn't seem to work, I was told the passenger window will roll down but not up, and I think the sunroof crank may be stripped. Trans wants to grind (syncros probably) especially third, but if i go from second to neutral and slide the shifter left and right then go to third it doesn't grind :/ lol. Drivers power seat all works (bolsters, lumbar etc) Overall I'm pretty happy with it. I can tell it will be fast eventually even on only 4 cylinders xD.

So, there you have it. Sorry its so long, I can't really post in any other sections cuz I'm a "new member" So I get to be in here and read questions about if people can "lift" their cars  to each their own I suppose.

Can't wait to get my ECU back and plug it in.

I can also make them fit the bucket right, no real huge mods to do to make these puppies fit? I just want the flip up gone..

Whatever work there is to do please advise. ;']

The big green fuse in the engine fuse box is shorted to ground. This causes the ALT fuse to blow. Yes I know, but I pulled every fuse in that box and that's the source of the ground, the battery fuse short causes the others to be grounded as they share a common metal plate.

Can anybody tell me where this wire goes? One side of that fuse goes to that plate and the other goes down inside the harness. This all happened as the owner was test driving it and the engine started popping and bucking.

Removed and tested both battery and alt, even disconnected the alternator altogether.

I took my Stealth down not running and had them install my EMS, UEGO, and pull my old piggybacks. The thing is like a new car.

Dead solid 900rpm idle, not a hiccup through the rev range. My car dynoed at 410AWHP on their dynojet.

Mike is one helluva guy. Emailed and called to make sure everything was done to my liking. Made me feel very in control.

I highly reccommend IPS for anyt tuning. Their FMIC kit is AMAZING as well. Looks great, brilliant design, and reasonably priced.

Hey all,

Some vandals smashed in my driver side window (well, the car is right-hand drive, so passenger side for all you people on the left side of the car), and it looks like some sort of plastic thing has broken off that guides the window to go straight up and down. My passenger side has it, but my driver's side no longer does. Just installed a new motor, and the window will only go up and down when you help pull it up because it's going down into the door frame at a really funny angle.

What part do I need to fix this? Anyone know? it wasn't part of the new window regulator....

Is there anyway I can use the cam caps from my old set of heads? Or do I have to have them cross drilled to fit the new set? How is this proccess done and is it expensive for a machine shop to do?

hello all, I just finished assembling and installing my new struts into my 3000gt sl.
They are the same stock w/ecs struts, but i'm reusing the old springs.
When I turn my wheel sharply when parked or driving I noticed a very loud sound. I had someone turn the wheel for me while I was looking at my struts and noticed that my springs were actually moving when put under load inside of the strut assembly.

I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong with them.

Clutch break-in AND new motor break in?

My recent engine rebuild is done and the engine is in the car; I had to pull my tranny and replace my clutch with a brand new one.

I still need to finish breaking in my engine, but I also want to properly break-in my clutch. Would it be okay to get into say, 3rd gear nice and slow, then once in 3rd, do a good hard pull and then slow back down, and do it a few more times? That way, I'm not shifting hard on the clutch and I can still break my motor in.

Does this make sense? Any help is appreciated.

so when i get back from my deployment i plan on buying a whole new exhaust. the previous owner installed a single side set up and it's very loud and annoying. it sounds like the waste gates are dumping instead of going through the exhaust. it sounds horrible and is kinda embarrassing.

so i plan on getting the HKS quad tip
HKS CatBack Exhaust TT/VR4 Quad Tip D2*-*Mitsubishi 3000GT*/*Dodge Stealth Parts (http://www.3sx.com/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=28776)

if this is still available, Stillen downpipe
Stillen Downpipe for TT / VR4*-*Mitsubishi 3000GT*/*Dodge Stealth Parts (http://www.3sx.com/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=1054)

and the rear pre cat eliminator
DN Pre-cat Eliminator REAR Pipe Only (Universal)*-*Mitsubishi 3000GT*/*Dodge Stealth Parts (http://www.3sx.com/store/comersus_viewItemBundle.asp?idProduct=1069)

or this kit is actually cheaper Generic TT Stainless Downpipe + Cat Eliminator Kit 3000GT/Stealth*-*Mitsubishi 3000GT*/*Dodge Stealth Parts (http://www.3sx.com/store/comersus_viewItemBundle.asp?idProduct=26723)

and i need to get two new O2 sensors. i think mine only has two, the ecu is FED spec. i'm also going to be getting the EGR block off plates EGR Blockoff Plates*-*Mitsubishi 3000GT*/*Dodge Stealth Parts (http://www.3sx.com/store/comersus_viewItemBundle.asp?idProduct=1074)

so that should complete my entire exhaust system, making it quieter and sound entirely different.

anybody have any videos of the HKS exhaust? i can't find it on youtube. i'd like to see what it sounds like.

Engine mounts

Hi folks,
Just a quick question about the interchangeability of OEM engine mounts.
I'm replacing mine and have bought a set from IPS, which were listed as being for all models, 91-99. I noticed when they arrived that the front (t-belt side) mount was aluminum rather than steel, and didn't have the damper block that my existing one had. I didn't think too much of it at the time, and just figured it was a new superseding part.

Having recently done a check with CAPS, it looks like there are three different part numbers for that engine mount, and none of them seem to supersede to the others.
My car has a build date of Feb '91, and lists MB581692 as the correct mount.
From June '91, CAPS shows MB892448 - I'm not sure how this differs from the previous one, but I assume it is still steel.
From '94 on, the PN listed is MB870005. This part is the aluminium mount that I have.
I notice that 3SX have two different mounts listed, depending on year. I'm not sure what PN their 1st Gen one is.

Can anyone tell me if these parts are indeed interchangeable, or if I should swap the mount I have for the correct one as listed by Mitsi?
My preference is not to swap it - as I'd have to pay air freight to the US and back (I'm in New Zealand) to get the correct part. But I don't want to end up regretting my decision!

The Stealth Technical Manual has this to say (regarding the 1st gen mount):
"DOHC models have a dynamic damper on the top of the engine mount to cut out high frequency noise."
If I go ahead and use the Aluminum one will it be at the expense of increased engine noise? What did they change with the '94+ models to allow the use of the aluminum mount without a damper?

If anyone can provide some insight on this, that'd be great!

Kind regards,
Kenneth Wells
