Hey, guys! I hope this is the right section... I just got my '92 VR-4 about a week ago. Definitely not a showroom car, but she's better than my last car!

Obviously, this twenty-year-old car has some issues. A lot of the interior could do for some replacement, mainly. However, I have a few problems that maybe someone here can help me with.

First, my car squeals. I have located the squealing to the driver's side of the engine. If I have the A/C on, the squealing is minor at idle and gets worse as the rpm's raise. If I have the A/C off, the squealing is awful at idle, but gets better as the rpm's raise. The guy from whom I bought the car said he spilt brake fluid onto the belt on the driver's side of the block just before he brought it to me, which he explained as the cause of the squealing. So, I don't know if I should just replace the belt, or if the fluid will eventually wear off. It has gotten better since I bought it, but it's nor completely gone.

Second, the radio is weird. I finally managed to get power to it, where the display lights up, I can change the channel, switch to the auxiliary input, but there's no sound. I turned my iPod up all the way, and you can hear the song, but it's faint and distorted (like robo remix or something). The strangest thing is this: I cannot adjust the volume on the deck. Neither the volume knob nor the steering wheel volume controls work (all the other ones do). The head unit isn't in the best of shape, but I can do everything on the unit except change the volume! I can see the levels changing with the EQ display when I have it set to FM.

Third, when the radio turns on, the antenna extends (like it should), but stops and then the motor keeps going for several seconds and it's LOUD. I don't know if the antenna is stuck, or the motor is screwed up, but it's annoying.

So, after spending hours Googling and searching, I decided to pose these questions here to people who know WAY more than I do. Any help is appreciated, guys. Thanks!

Upgraded rebuild kit with NPR pistons and rings. Of course I plan on hot roding it and taking it to the track a couple times. But also be my average every other day driver. Lol I don't plan on running more than 14 or 15 Pounds till I upgrade my turbos and fuel system. Probably another year. But I also plan on taking the boost down to 7 pounds for if I wanna go on a road trip or saving gas on daily driving. Lol.
Which spark plugs should I get and should I gap them between 27 and 32? If not which Gap? Thanks guys

Hey guys.

Recently I put an engine in my 91 VR4. All went well, Has about 1700 miles on it no issues. In the past couple weeks I've been having issues with a check engine light coming on at steady throttle cruise. Code is #39 I beleive. It's for Oxygen sensor, front bank. Even though I had replaced both sensors when the engine was out with brand new ones, I called and got a warranty on the sensor. put the new one in, a week later same issue.

I've checked the following:
-All pinouts according to service manual, everything checks good back to the ECU.
-Voltage coming out of 02 sensor is low.. like .2v. It will respond and kick up when I rev the engine, but at idle it settles back down.
-Pulled front plugs, all are white indicating a lean condition
-Fuel pressure is 36psi at hot idle with vacuum line connected.
-If it matters, I did the vac reduction, so I have zero solenoids on the firewall. -No EGR, but did keep evap as per the mspec diagram.
-Voltage at fuel pump is 11.0v at idle, decreases slightly, maybe .1v when racing the engine. The pump is not hotwired but I did bypass the relay as per stealth316

Other mods include Open filter, evo MR BOV (recirculated), 3sx preturbo intake pipes, MBC @14psi, gutted precats.

Any thoughts? only the front bank is doing it, 02 voltages for the rear bank look perfectly normal.

Thanks!

>>>>> The attached photo is of the log graph for the front 02. the top graph in orange is RPM. the bottom most horizontal line represents 1800 RPM. Bottom is voltage (obviously). I find the behavior of this sensor really strange, and don't see why it's running lean on just the one bank, given that It ran for 5000 miles before and about 1400 after the engine with no issues.

Also is 1/8 in diameter vacuum hose going to work? I asked the company selling the gauge and they said they used a 1/8 inch diameter hose.

It also has 4 wires..Positive, Negative,Headlight Illumination, and Dimmer wire. Where is the best place to hook all these wires to?
I cant get a straight answer from anyone but im pretty sure the sensor 1 is the one i should expect, but then how did sensor 2 go off if i have the simulator? if someone could tell me straight up what bank 2 sensor 1 and 2 are that'd be great, and why i have 2 codes if possible.

I posted this post on the AEM Forum and had no replies. Looks like that forum (which used to be really active) is dead now... Maybe someone here can help me answer these questions?

Hi All,

I was one of the first kids on the block with an AEM EMS about 10 years ago. I spent a pile of money on it, sensors and professional tuning. Then the car developed some minor (non-ECU) issues and I parked it. With house, wife, work etc - it sat in my junkyard for the past 6 years. In that time I drove it maybe 200 miles and the last time I ran the motor was maybe 3 years ago.

That said, last weekend I charged the battery, plugged it in and without too much griping it fired up and drove to my other house. I am now thinking to restore my first love and since I have been out of the loop for quite some time I am wondering what has happened in the world of the EMS.

What's this "Series 2" and how is it better? What's EMS 4? What happened to 3? (Or is this like the ACLU counting to 10 without the 2?)

Has anything happened with improvements to the management software? I remember the dashboard was a cool feature, but was a bit beta-ish. Has this improved any?

A friend in my local club had some gizmo that connected to the EMS and was essentially an auxilury dashboard for it. It was in development back then - he got one of the first units. Do these exist now?

I would like to utilize some of the advanced feature of my EMS - I barely scratched the surface when I had it installed.

I'm not a new owner by any means but figured I'd ask here first before posting in the general forum.

I was driving on the highway (about a 30 minute drive) and noticed that the temperature gauge would slowly start rising until just shy of hitting red. Then quickly come down to normal temperature (mid way). This continued until I reached my house. Since it never lingered in the red for long, I never stopped.

I'm thinking that it might be the coolant temperature sensor, since I changed both the radiator and thermostat about a year ago.

Anyone have any troubleshooting advice?

TIA

Hey guys, my 3kgt is not firing on cylinders 3 and 6. I have read numerous forums on this since it started and found that this is a very common problem, the only thing that is not common is the solution to fix it :/. I found that there is no spark coming from the 3/6 coil pack at all. I have ran checks on the wiring with my multimeter and everything checks out, and even ran jumper wires from the ptu to the coil pack. I have replaced the spark plugs and spark plug wires with new ones. I have first replaced the coil pack with a good new one, and same with the ptu. tested both and they check out fine. I timed the car and that is fine, both the cam and crankshaft sensors check out as well. I have had a compression test on the car and that is also fine. I replaced the ecu with a good one and that still did not fix my problem. That seems to be about everything that is involved in this circuit of parts. I have even had the dealership take a look at it and they tested everything and could not find why there was a misfire. When i first start the car it will turn over for a few seconds then it will kick. I would imagine it does this because of the lack of spark on 3/6, if i then turn the key again it will start. It runs very doggishly and the rpm tach will ajust show the drop from the misfire. you can also smell gas once it is started. I imagine that is also from the lack of spark from the engine not being able to burn it off. If someone has any suggestion on anything I could look for it would greatly appreciated because I am completely stumped at this point. Thank you

Hey guys !

My name is Arian and I am from Germany.
I bought a 92 Mitsubishi GTO SR, the one with 4 WD and 4WS.

While searching for help at Google i found this forum and I am happy, that there is such a great scene in America. Here we only got a few 3000GT, but nearly no one drives a GTO or a Stealth non Turbo.

Well, my problem is, that my idle won't be constant.
I already installed new vacuum hoses and checked, whether I got a vacuum leak somewhere, couldn't find one.
Throotle body cleaned also.

Next step was to change the IAC. First I tried two beige ones, now I got a black one inside.

I'm not sure, but I think with the black one the idle is the best, but not perfect. Might it be, that I need a new O-ring behind the IAC?

The SAS Screw is nearly fully screwed in and I got no Multitester to set the idle to factory settings:(

If I plug out the connector of the MAF Sensor the idle stays constantly, but I don't know, whether changing the MAF will help...

Any ideas`?

I hope you understand enough :D

As some of you know, I sold both my 16Ged Stealth, and lightly modded Z32TT last year, and picked up a mint, bone stock, 2800 mile (at the time) 04 ZO6 to take their place. It was time for a change, I was tired of the daily maintenance, tuning issues, etc of both cars, and wanted to get into something newer, more reliable. A NA V8 also appealed to me as well.

So I took the car to get dyno tuned with the following mods: Halltech intake, ceramic coated 1 7/8" AR LT Headers with catted X pipe. Pretty pleased with the results (pulls very well for being under 3100 LBS now). I was told by my tuner (who specializes in Vettes and Vipers), that stock C5 ZO6s dyno 335-340ish on his dyno (and he showed me numerous examples). Results below:

I was pouring a bottle of friction modifier into my transmission through the speedometer gear hole and the top of the bottle with the nipple popped off and fell into the transmission! I drained it hoping to get it out and had no such luck. The piece is made of a softer plastic, and I am concerned about it being in there but I'm curious if that plastic can damage the metal internals. If someone could give me some advice I would appreciate it. And if someone has a better idea short of dropping the tranny to get it out that would be great! Thanks

So a while back I posted a thread about removing the aftermarket alarm system from my car and it wouldn't start after.
Well I finally got that issue fixed and now only my boost gauge works. No tach, no speed, no coolant temp or oil pressure. Just boost. All the lights on the gauge cluster work fine though. Tested another gauge cluster and had the same issue. All the fuses look good.

On a side note, If anyone comes across a 93 wiring harness from the ecu to everything else I'll gladly take it off your hands. I want this shit done right and not worry about it anymore. I had forgotten what a headache these cars were....

On the drivers side I can just get two fingers in between the wheel/fender gap, but barely. On the passenger side I can easily fit 3 fingers almost 4. All the other sides are equal. I am running 19" staggered g35 wheels and I am lowered on eibach lowering springs (not sure which ones if there's more than one kind of eibach for our cars) but other than that everything else suspension wise is stock including working ecs struts.

Any ideas?

So I've been trying to figure out how to stabilize my O2 response when I tap the throttle. Currently, the car idles very well but when I tap the throttle the O2 goes way lean, then way rich, then stabilizes. I've been playing around with the "Accel vs. dTPS" and "Accel vs. Throttle" charts but can't seem to make any dent in this lean/rich condition. Does anyone have a good tuning resource or care to share some experience on how to improve this?

Also, is it possible to tune out the fluctuation in O2 response completely?

Thanks,
