Okay so I was helping SirLaughaloTT install his turbo timer. We were looking around for a good spot to put it. This is the place we decided on, it seems stock, is out of the way, and more importantly the steering wheel blocks the light from bothering your eyes on night. Here is what we did.
First he hooked up the harness, running the 12v red wire to something that has constant power even when the car was off, then hooking the other two up to some other stuff, I will have his exact instructions up later. So with that hooked up you will note the harness is short. So it must be somewhere in the dash, unless you want to splice in some new wires. Considering the instructions were in Japanese, we didnt feel like dealing with that. Total install time was roughly 20 minutes. Tools used were a phillips screw driver, 10mm socket with extension, cut off wheel, a bench grinder, and a drill, one self-tapping screw. The victims....
Remove your kick panel with the 10mm socket, the vent comes off with 2 phillips screws. The grill comes out out with two more phillips screws leaving you with this.
It will not fit in the vent without modifications, we cut the back out like so, keeping a snug fit.
SirLaghaloTT suggested we find a way to hold it in for good, but still be removable. So we removed the turbo timer, shot a self tapper through the side of the vent. We then took the screw out and ground it flat. Looking like this
the screwed back into the hole with a washer on the unit, thus the screw presses on the washer, holding the unit in, while it can still be easily removed.
We now had this slick unit.
We then removed the vent itself from the dash, so no hot air will blow directly onto the unit. Thought the tubing is flimsier than anything else in there. Some better finished shots will be up tomorrow or so, but here is my overexposed camera with flash just to show you how it looks.
