why did you split the balljoint? Take the strut loose at the knuckle and you can swing it down enough to get the cv axle out. Much less chance of breaking things.

I usually take the control arm off the hub OR control arm off the sub frame if i have to, and the tie rod end off the hub and then swing the strut asm out a bit and pop the axel out of the hub then out of the tranny. It's a little more work but id rather not have to align anything when im done.
