Default strange launching problem

Okay guys, first of all I rarely ever launch my car, the only times I have on dry pavement are at auto-x events.

Here is the problem, When I launch my car at an autox I ususally feather/dump the clutch at 3-4 thousand rpm, thats all my car needs and it doesn't bog. It feels as if there is almost no strain on the tranny.

when I do this on dry pavement everything is fine the tires screech and I'm off like a rocket. However...

when I do this where i have little traction like on snow, or on wet slick pavement the whole drivetrain goes nuts! the transmission feels like it's being bounced around a lot(very loud and clunky). I've been under the car(still new to the awd, I had a fwd tt that i learned everything on.) and the driveshaft seems to have a lot of play in it, far more than I'd expect. like maybe even an inch, or more.

When this happens it just seems to me that It would be motor mounts, that's what i initially expected.

Why does this only happen when the wheels can easily brake traction and not on dry pavement??? and what do you guys think is the problem.

thanks for the answers guys, any help is appreciated.

David
