I'll chip in on this dead thread. Perhaps the single mod I did when I had my old Saturn SC2 (yes, a Saturn) was get a S-AFCII and did some A/F tuning on the dyno. I leaned the A/F at WOT to 13.5:1 and gained 8WHP (that's over a 6% increase) and just as much torque, all above 3500 RPM. The stock A/F was dipping down to about 11:1 at WOT, way too rich for N/A.

So, A/F tune that sumbitch and maybe bump up timing a hair. I'm not sure if playing with A/F will change the timing (more advance when leaned out due to altered MAS signal fooling the ECM) since you have a distributor and not coil packs.
