I see two possible problems with the 3rd gear syncro shown in Synchro3.jpg.

1) from the color, it appears to be brass, which I thought meant it is a cheap, non-OEM replacement.
2) there is no gap between the ring and the gear, which seems to imply that it is worn out. I have seen other pictures of new one, and appears to have a gap.

According to previous owner, he had the tranny rebuilt, but I had problems with 3rd, right after I bought it.

How do this look? Time for replacement?
Wow. That is about the best picture anyone has ever shown me of their dog teeth up close. The dog teeth on the gear and synchro sleeve should deffinately be replaced. The rings also look like they are the old soft brass style. The softer brass body of the ring will delevope indintations on the tangs that contact the synchro detents which will result in excessive clearance and grinding even if the friction material is still good. That is why I always recommend replacing them with the much more durable new style of the steel bodied rings. Both 3rd and 4th rings look like they are brass bodied. Do yourself a favor in the long run and replace them now.

I do believe we have a used 3rd gear and 3/4 hub and sleeve assembly at 3SX, but don't quote me on that just yet. Give me a call their on Monday and I'll double check to make sure. 704-784-DRAG I do know that we have the rings brand new at the least. We may have a set of very good used ones (steel bodied obviously) to sell as well.
