well i figured it out. i misread the version i was originally running before i updated. it was actually 1.07, which is what came on the cd. i ran the update for 2.16. and apparantly, the update doesn't work unless you already have 2.13 installed. i did not know that, so even after i "updated" to 2.16, it was still 1.07. so mohdparts.com to the rescue, downloaded 2.13. installed it, after some trial and error, and it works fine now (firmware is 2.13, always was apparantly).

so new question, any reason to update to 2.16? or should i just leave it all alone now that it's working right?
