Default Re: Need Tranny rebuild/ 93 VR4- Experience with Jack's?

Glad to hear things are turning out pretty good for you guys. Glad to hear people having good results with Jack's. Having done a ton of trannys and TCs and currently doing rebuilds at 3SX, I can say that Chris is correct about more parts being worn in these things. I don't think most members realize that. That is why I have always gone through every last part in a tranny to give it a thorough inspection. The last thing anybody wants is to be blamed for a bad VCU when all you did was replace the 2nd gear rings like the customer wanted. Too much liability for the shop and it's a HUGH disservice to the customer, so I won't do it. It's all or nothing. Yeah, it cost more to go through the whole thing, but it NEEDS to be done. Nearly every tranny that had a popped VCU, broken fork, or really torn up synchro ring or bearing needed a thorough cleaning to get all the crud out to prevent future failures.

Personally, I don't see why these things are so hard for some shops to rebuild. They aren't special, actually one of the easiest trannys I have ever been through. If you can't look at the dog teeth on reverse for these trannys and see that they are worn enough to possibly cause it to pop out of gear, then you probably can't do it for ANY tranny. It's not brain surgery, it's wrenchin'.
