dont use a rubber mallet its next to useless. the flat part of the rotor is what you need to shock. without hitting the studs give the rotor center a few good cracks with a big steel hammer. think of a triangle and the 3 corners is where you need to hit (without hitting the studs) squirt some easit oil around the center flange and go have a coffee come back and hit it again. dont be shy either show it whos boss! DON'T hit the outter of the rotor the (business part) and don't try to knock the rotor off from the back!

direct hits with a big hammer is enough to shock the rust thats holding the rotor on.
