Think about it, if every time you flipped on your brights, you needed to wait for it to warm up, you might not get the bright light you need in time.
I just run HID lo-beams and Silverstar Ultra hi-beams. It works really nicely, and it's cool to see the white-difference.

Not Necessarily I work on Audi's for a living, and all the new A4's A'6s A8's and Q7's Have HID High Beams, I havent really looked into it, but i believe the Ballast is warmed up before the light is on, then when you hit the dimmer switch it closes the circuit on the opposite side of ballast (closer to to the bulb) and the Light switches on
----BTW i read this review and went out and bought them, Very happy! I got em for the Fogs since i dont drive with the headlights on much, but one of my headlights recently went out, so i got the Projector Pop up conversions (h4's) and going to order the top side HIDS next Had em a week, so far no problems *knock on wood*
