is there a step up from the shaft to the splines? If there is it is 300m. 300m rusts worse than normal, so greasing the shaft is very important.

Your parts are still good though. notice how the splines on both the transfer case and the shaft are like a trapezoid? If they were more like a triangle they would be very worn. Clean your parts up and grease them and you'll be good to go.
