please correct me if im wrong, and i apologize if this was mentioned already, i did a quick search of the thread and didnt see much.

but wouldnt a similar result be achieved by lowering the base fuel pressure?

i assume the power gain has a lot to do with getting the IDC's closer to optimal, but in this case you are chaning the amount of air that is metered as apposed to chaning the amount of fuel that it demanded.

similarly, couldnt you lower to base fuel pressure so you could get the IDC's closer to 85% or what ever?
