a custom bell-housing = fit any tranny to any engine. it's funding and ambition which keeps it from happening.
don't just post here to rag on me, without some better info.
if these cars were RWD, then i'd simply swap the rear end out for a ratio that matched what i wanted the car to do. in an AWD it's not nearly as simple, so it makes a lot more sense to add gearing changes/additional gears to the tranny--than it does to change all 3 differentials (unless you can demonstrate how that's flawed logic).
if nothing else, the engine could be mounted longitudinally (yes, highly work-intensive), and then even MORE tranny options become available; yes, even the 4-matic.
