Nice, I didn't know that.

What I am saying though is stock.

Stock autos are not built for speed, they are not built to speed shift or even race. Manuals can do whatever the driver in the seat is capable of though.

Not just with our cars but with DSM's you will find that autos only MATCH what a decent driver is capable of and by decent I mean better than average. They do not however beat the times and E.T's set by the best drivers. All the records are held by manuals and since its a variant of the 1g DSM auto tranny you can look at the 1g DSM autos and compare the times and E.T's to the 1G manuals.

Thats stock to stock and modified to modified. I agree with you though. If I were building a drag car just for simplicity and the ability to duplicate my runs without much driver input, both you and I would want a auto. With that I wouldn't rule out a manual though. A auto has no advantage over a manual with a studderbox and a great driver, though it would have a disadvantage in drivetrain loss.

Now if we had a 5 or 6 speed auto with paddle shifters, launch control, and a sport mode that could shift gears in a a 1/10th of a second that would be interesting but we don't.
