That is exactly what mine does, and it is an ATX SOHC. My 1995 Plymouth has the same engine, but never had that problem. Could it be related to the diameter of the oil paths in the engine? I may be off base here, but I remember reading that somewhere around that time, they switched from 1mm to 3mm oil paths because of oil delivery problems. Again, that could be very incorrect.
