For nice panning shots to avoid motion blur, other than the background use the following trick. Try setting the shutter speed to the focal length plus about one or two stops. ( 100mm lens for example would use a shutter speed of 1/100th, then go to 1/125th or 1/160th). Hope that helps you.

yeah, this is kind of unrelated but for you experience photographers out there, would anyone be willing to make a car-photoshoot tutorial as a permanent, un-editable thread with tips like this? There is a small tutorial in the AV room but it isn't very comprehensive, especially for things like HDR which I would love to learn or even taking clear, sharp night pictures w/o too much glare. just an idea, but i think it would be super cool/helpful

It would be possible to make such a thread, but every now and then the tips/ hints would need to be preened and consolidated, so as to weed out useless info and to make the good items more visible. As for night photos, where are you shooting, ie, location, and what gear are you using? This will go a long way in allowing people to help you. Also, what is your experience level?
