I figured the timing advance problem with AFC's is directly related to the correction values used and not what the MAS is dishing out. The larger the inj, the more correction, the higher the timing advance.

Removing those honeycombs allows you to use less correction but still meet the correct A/F ratios. Less correction should equate to stock like timing or closer to stock timing curves.

IIRC I was seeing up to 28-30 timing at 7k rpms and afterwards it was around 24-26. I am going to get a scanmaster 3 so I can pay attention to my timing all the time.
yes but removing the honeycombs is still a way of telling the ECU that less air is going through then there really is, it's no different then using an AFC
