I'm getting a lot of white smoke while sitting at idle, why?
Ill answer this one. This could be caused by a variety of things but this is the most common cause is: condensation.
On a cold night or early morning water will settle in the exhaust pipes and muffler tips. When you start the car and it heats up, the water will burn off as steam. Giving you the white smoke.
This is perfectly normal, but to be sure do the following checks:
1. When does it happen? Only on a cold day? or morning? or does it happen all the time at startup. If it happens all the time then go to step 2.
2. If it happens all the time then get a compression test done. It is possible that your head gasket is going bad causing water to enter the combustion chamber.
3. Check your engine oil. Does it look normal or like chocolate milk. Chocolate milk oil is caused by a blown headgasket, which causes water to enter the engines oil supply. Oil and water doesnt mix so it makes the oil have that milky appearance.
