Default What is with Rod Bearings dying?

Engine with approximately 5,000 miles on it, new crank and bearings, balanced and a rod bearing goes after only a year. What is the point of upgrading pistons or rods, when it is always the bearings that go? Is there some way to make that part of the engine bullet proof? I think I'm going to rebuild this thing, so if anyone has ideas throw them out there. If I spin another rod bearing, the car is going to well, something.....
