First I just want to say thanks to Dutch, Spydagal and the guys at the Lewisville meet. This car was on its' way to Macco and someone elses garage. I've owned it since 1998. It has about 220,000 miles all orginal. The story begins with the clear coat missing and one ugly VR4.
The Lewisville meet:

Now the work begins removed everything, sanded lightly and worked out all the dents and waves (at least I thought)
cleaned out the garage, taped it up, degreased it. (degrease, de-wax before you start to do anything also)
Shot it with primer (note to self, next time shoot 2 coats of primer)
Then I untaped everything. I blocked sanded and block sanded etc... I must have gotten too tired to take pictures because I can't find any. Then taped it back up degreased de-waxed.
Shot 2 coats of color. taped off around the rear window, back and front where it's supposed to be grey and shot grey. Shot 3 coats of clear. Lessons learned (My 20 gallon small compressor burned out half way through the last coat. Had to leave it over night and run around the next day buying a big compressor. Big compressor works so much better, car would have turned out much nicer if I would have had it from the beginning. I used the cheap gun that came with the first compressor for primer and color. Used accuspray 07HS for clear coat.
Untaped everything started wetsanding 1000 grit then 2000.
Buffed out with medium grit, then polished.
Then put the car back together. Also painted the windshield wipers and cover black. I still have some touch up to do and it's a long way from perfect. However, it's a lot closer to perfect than it is to being what it used to be.
Paint color $325 for 1/2 gallon (kutana pearl red) $45 for grey $20 for black
clear coat $150
Primer and sand paper and incidental $150
good spray gun $250 (craigslist)
New compressor $400
Hours of labor 80 to 100
