Its loose in neutral and in the rest of the gears. When its in gear you can kinda shake it left and right. feels a little loose. How can i fix this?

New bushings

automatic or manual whatever. The assembly is just mounted to the exhaust/drive shaft hump. its just your bushings that make it loose like that. You can tighten some of the bolts in there to clean up some of the play. Now if we were talking about a car where the shifter is directly mounted into the transmission then you might have some problems.

I know bushing helped mine quite a bit. Yes, there's still 'slop' but it's normal

Remove boot, you will see the slop. now remove console, then shifter. My 16 you old rebuilt it with parts we had around the shop. Take you time. it's not hard. Two weeks later we put in a 5speed, but the point is shifter feels nice when the slop is gone. Do it.
